A biopsy apparatus includes a cannula assembly having a cannula hub and a cutting cannula. A stylet assembly has a stylet hub and a stylet. The stylet is coaxial with the cutting cannula. An operator mechanism is configured to effect axial movement of the stylet hub and the cannula hub. The operator mechanism has a head portion configured to releasably engage the stylet hub and an arm member configured to releasably engage the cannula hub. The stylet hub is configured to be rotationally movable between an engaged position and a disengaged position, wherein in the engaged position the stylet hub is releasably connected to the head portion of the operator mechanism, and in the disengaged position, the stylet hub is disconnected from the head portion of the operator mechanism to facilitate axial movement of the stylet assembly in a proximal direction independent of the operator mechanism.

Biopsy apparatus

A biopsy device includes a cutting cannula driver connected to a cutting cannula and a stylet driver connected to a stylet. The cutting cannula driver has a first rack member and a flange. The stylet driver has a second rack member. A drive assembly has a linear motor drive, a transmission assembly, a switching motor drive, and an electrical controller circuit. The electrical controller circuit is configured to execute program instructions to selectively operate the linear motor drive and the switching motor drive. The transmission assembly has a gear assembly drivably coupled to the switching motor drive and configured to releasably engage at least one of the first rack member of the first cannula driver and the second rack member of the second cannula driver. A coupler member is connected to the linear motor drive and is configured to receive and to engage the flange of the first cannula driver.

A sealant injection needle assembly includes a cannula assembly and a stylet assembly. The cannula assembly has a cannula hub and a cannula having a first longitudinal sealant passage and a second longitudinal sealant passage. The first longitudinal sealant passage has a first proximal sealant port and a first distal sealant port. The second longitudinal sealant passage has a second proximal sealant port and a second distal sealant port. The stylet assembly has a stylet advance hub and a stylet configured for longitudinal movement in a lumen of the cannula. The stylet has a first stage position and a second stage position. The stylet has a first exterior circumvolving channel longitudinally spaced apart from the second exterior circumvolving channel that are separately selectively and sequentially positionable in fluid communication with both of the first distal sealant port and the second distal sealant port of the cannula.

A dual lumen coaxial introducer, for use with an elongate needle, includes a hub, an elongate member, and a pushrod. The elongate member has a first lumen, a second lumen, a proximal end portion, and a distal end. The proximal end portion is fixedly attached to the hub. The first lumen of the elongate member defines a longitudinal axis and is configured to slidably receive the elongate needle. The pushrod is located in the second lumen of the elongate member. The pushrod has a distal end surface. The pushrod is movable in the second lumen between a retracted position and an extended position. In the retracted position, the distal end surface of the pushrod is spaced away from the distal end of the elongate member to define a marker recess in the second lumen elongate member for carrying a tissue marker for delivery to a delivery site in a patient.

A biopsy device includes a hydraulic drive assembly, a drive mechanism, and a biopsy member. The hydraulic drive assembly includes a chamber housing, a drive piston, a driven piston, a cavity in the chamber housing between the drive piston and the driven piston, and a hydraulic fluid that fills the cavity and hydraulically connects the drive piston to the driven piston. The chamber housing defines a proximal chamber, a distal chamber, and a transition chamber, collectively forming a continuous passage. The drive mechanism includes a motor, a drive gear attached to the motor, a driven gear engaged with the drive gear, and a drive link member coupling the driven gear to the drive piston. The drive mechanism is drivably connected to the drive piston to move the drive piston in the proximal chamber. The driven piston moves in the distal chamber. The biopsy member is connected to the driven piston.

Dual-access site catheter systems with a blade or scoring functionality entering through a first access site and a balloon functionality for manipulating or driving the blade or scoring functionality through a different site. The blade or scoring functionality also sometimes provides needle or fluid delivery functionality to an atherosclerotic lesion.

Dual access incising catheter

A catheter assembly including, in some embodiments, a sonic connector at a proximal end of a core wire, a damping mechanism around a proximal end portion of the core wire, and a heat sink connected to the damping mechanism. The sonic connector is configured to couple to an ultrasound-producing mechanism and transmit vibrational energy to the proximal end of the core wire, which core wire includes a distal end portion configured to modify intravascular lesions. The damping mechanism includes a gasket system around the proximal end portion of the core wire in a damping-mechanism bore of the catheter assembly. The damping mechanism is configured to damp the vibrational energy. A system including, in some embodiments, the catheter assembly and the ultrasound-producing mechanism is also disclosed.

Heat sinks for catheters, and systems and methods thereof

A fluid connector system configured to couple a first fluid line structure, e.g. port, with a second fluid line structure, e.g. catheter. The connector system can include a connector body and one or more locking mechanisms designed to transition between an unlocked position and a locked position. The locking mechanism includes a first lever arm rotatably coupled to the connector body, and a second lever arm rotatably coupled to the first lever arm. The second lever arm can further be rotatably and releasably coupled to the port. Rotating the first lever arm uses mechanical advantage to urge the port to engage a catheter ensuring a tight seal therebetween even under high fluid pressures.

Lockable exchangeable fluid connector and method

A catheter for scoring or slicing a lesion. The catheter has a first receiver at a distal end of an expandable portion of the catheter shaft. A first carrier at least partially within the first receiver is moveable axially along the catheter shaft to deploy a first cutter along the expandable portion for cutting or scoring the lesion. In an alternative embodiment, the first carrier may be a wire having a loop, and thus forming a first length including the first cutter and a second length including a second cutter. Actuation of the wire thus causes simultaneous, reciprocal movement of the first and second cutters. Related methods are also disclosed.

Catheter with guided, translatable cutter for active slicing/scoring and related methods

A catheter for actively scoring or slicing a lesion. A catheter body includes first and second lateral openings. A selectively deployable cutter is connected to the catheter body. The cutter has a retracted configuration in which it does not perform a slicing or scoring function, such as while tracking through the vasculature, and a deployed configuration for slicing or scoring an obstruction. The cutter may include a plurality of retractable blades, such that when deployed, each blade projects in a different direction, such as from one of the lateral openings. Related methods are also disclosed.

Catheter for active slicing/scoring and related methods

A marker delivery device includes a handle having a housing, and a cannula positioned in the handle that retractably extends beyond the front end of the housing. A retraction mechanism is mounted to the housing, and has a shear member. The retraction mechanism is coupled to a proximal end of the cannula. The retraction mechanism is configured to store a retraction force, and is configured to facilitate a retraction of the cannula into a chamber of the housing upon an actuation of the retraction mechanism. The shear member has a shear region of reduced cross section dimension. The shear member is configured to be displaced upon the actuation of the retraction mechanism to expose the shear region to the retraction force to shear the shear member at the shear region to enable the retraction and prevent reuse of the marker delivery device.

A biopsy device includes a housing body, and a cannula assembly that has a first elongate cannula and a second elongate cannula coaxial with the first elongate cannula. The second elongate cannula has a lumen and a side wall having a vacuum side port in fluid communication with the lumen. A vacuum source is positioned in the housing body. The vacuum source has a chamber side wall having a chamber vacuum port. A seal is interposed in sealing engagement between the chamber vacuum port and the second elongate cannula. A trigger slide assembly is coupled to the housing body, and coupled to the cannula assembly, and is configured to move the second elongate cannula to align the vacuum side port of the second elongate cannula with the chamber vacuum port of the vacuum source to supply vacuum from the vacuum source to the lumen of the second elongate cannula.

Provided herein is a system including, in some embodiments, a streamlined port and a port tunneler. The port includes a septum and a stabilizing element. The septum is disposed over a cavity in a body of the port, and the septum is configured to accept a needle therethrough. The stabilizing element is configured to stabilize the port in vivo and maintain needle access to the septum. The port tunneler includes an adapter and a release mechanism. The adapter is in a distal end portion of the port tunneler, and the adapter is configured to securely hold the port while subcutaneously tunneling the port from an incision site to an implantation site for the port. The release mechanism is configured to release the port from the adapter at the implantation site for the port.

Port tunneling systems and methods thereof

A low-profile access port for subcutaneous implantation within a patient. The access port can include a set of receiving cups which can be placed in fluid communication with a catheter. The set of receiving cups can provide a greater skin surface with which to access the port to avoid repeated penetrations at a single locus, such as during consecutive dialysis treatments. The access port can alternatively include needle penetrable arms or elongate chambers that also have a slim, low profile. The access port can include a needle guide to direct subsequent needle access to different insertion points to permit healing at the previous insertion points. The access port can be formed of a modular construction with a first conduit, a second conduit, and an outer shell. The outer shell can include a proximal portion and a distal portion. The access port can include a stem assembly and a locking member.
