An array antenna is formed from delay lines, and includes radiating elements which are individually connected to line patterns of the delay lines. Such an array antenna structure can be implemented by printed circuit technology and can be used to establish radio links for data communication between a mobile carrier, such as an aircraft, and a geostationary satellite.

Array antenna

An antenna () for emitting radiation from at least one electromagnetic traveling wave which propagates along a guide path is designed to reduce reflection of the traveling wave likely to occur at the end of the guide path. To this purpose, the guide path has at least one portion in the form of a spiral segment (), which is connected to another portion of the guide path in the form of a loop (). Gain in the antenna's reflection coefficient can be obtained in this manner, which is effective in particular near a lower frequency limit of a transmission band of the antenna.

Spiral segment antenna

A multi-band antenna () including a metal base plate () forming an electrical ground plane, and a plurality of metal patches (to) superimposed on top of the metal base plate. The metal patches are connected in parallel between a signal lead wire (A) and the metal base plate. The metal patches have respective surface areas which increase with the distance of each metal patch from the metal base plate. The antenna provides as many different resonant frequency values as there are patches.

Multi-band antenna

Some embodiments are directed to a high impedance surface device. The high impedance surface device can include a set of at least two separate, substantially cylindrical compartments, that have internal surfaces in an electrically conductive material. The compartments each define, at one end, a single aperture, oriented on the same side, and covered by at least one periodic structure of electrically conductive patterns. Each compartment is filled with a dielectric material, and is thus covered forming at least one electromagnetic resonator. Each electromagnetic resonator exhibits a resonant wavelength. The at least two compartments are separated from one another by a distance less than the shortest resonant wavelength exhibited by the resonators that they form. At least two respective resonant wavelengths of the electromagnetic resonators formed by the at least two covered compartments are different, and the periodic structure exhibits a spatial period less than half the shortest resonant wavelength.
