The invention relates to a method for manufacturing an ophthalmic lens having at least one optical function, comprising the step of providing a starting optical system of the lens, having a basic optical function and the step of additively manufacturing an additional optical element of the lens, by deposition of multiple predetermined bulking components made of at least one material having a predetermined refractive index, directly onto the front surface and/or the rear surface of the starting optical system; wherein the additive manufacturing step comprises the step of determining a manufacturing guideline for the additional optical element on the basis of the characteristics of said at least one optical function to be provided to the lens, the characteristics of said at least one basic optical function, the geometric characteristics of the starting optical system, and the predetermined refractive index of the material.

The present invention relates to an apparatus for conforming a functionalized flexible planar film on an optical lens. The apparatus according to the invention may also be used in a process of functionalization of an optical lens. A multilayer polarizing structure is produced on a temporary support. The structure comprises at least one orienting layer and one polarizing layer comprising dichroic dyes, the dichroic dyes having an angular orientation determined by the orienting layer. The multilayer structure is separated from the temporary substrate before being applied onto a surface of an optical element. Applying the structure onto the optical element may be easily carried out while obtaining a quality compatible with many uses of the optical element, in particular ophthalmic uses.

A polarizing optical element comprises a transparent optical base element and a layered structure that incorporates a polarizing film. The polarizing film is of the dichroic dye type and is oriented uniaxially. The layered structure is bonded to the optical base element by means of a layered structure that includes at least one layer of a pressure-sensitive adhesive. Thanks to the use of pressure-sensitive adhesive, the polarizing film during the bonding operation maintains a high polarization efficiency and an optical quality compatible with many applications of the optical element, especially ophthalmic applications.
