A method identifies a location of a fault on a faulty line of an electrical power supply network having a plurality of lines, a plurality of inner nodes, and at least three outer nodes. The outer nodes each bound a line and are provided with measurement devices which are used to measure high-frequency current and/or voltage signals. To locate faults, one of the outer nodes is selected as the starting node for the search for the fault location. Starting from the starting node, paths to the other outer nodes are determined, and that those paths on which the fault location could be located are selected. A line on which the fault location could be located, in principle, is identified for each of the selected paths using the respective times at which the traveling waves arrive, and a potential fault location is determined for the respectively identified line.

Method and device for determining a fault location in an electric power distribution network with an infeed and lines in the form of a main strand and a multiplicity of branches of the main strand. First and second measured values are acquired at a first and second measurement point of the power distribution network, and a fault location is determined based on the first and the second measured values. Arrival of respective traveling waves are identified based on the first and the second measured values, and the times of the respective arrival of the traveling wave are stored. A first fault location value is generated using the respective times of both measurement points and a second fault location value is generated using the times of only the first measurement point. The fault location is determined based on the first fault location value and the second fault location value.

A method determines a fault position on a line of a power supply network. Transient profiles of current and voltage values are measured at the line ends of the line and, by using the transient profiles, after the occurrence of a fault, a fault position is determined. To carry out fault location with high accuracy even in the case of a line having more than two line ends, transient profiles of a node current and a node voltage at a node point are determined by using the current and voltage values of a line end and a traveling wave model for the respective line section, and, for each line section, a two-sided fault position determination is carried out using the transient profile of the current and voltage values measured at its line end and, the node current and the node voltage and the traveling wave model for this line section.

Method, device and system for determining the fault position of a fault on a line of an electrical power supply network

A method for generating an error signal indicating an error type of an error in a multi-phase electrical energy supply network. Measured values describe a current operating state of the network. The measured values are transmitted to a protection device. An evaluating device evaluates every possible loop of the network that can be affected with respect to the recognition of the error type of an error, by using the measured values. In order to be able to more reliably recognize the error type even under different network conditions, the measured values and/or values derived from the measured values are evaluated using at least two different protection criteria, for every possible loop. Each of the protection criteria is suitable for indicating an error type of an error present in the evaluated loop, and the error signal is generated in consideration of all available evaluation results of the protection criteria.

A method for determining the fault location of a ground fault relating to a line of a three-phase electrical energy supply network with an ungrounded neutral point, in which current and voltage values are measured at one line end of the line. Following the occurrence of a ground fault on the line, the location of the fault is defined using the measured current and voltage values. The measured current and voltage values are converted into &#x3b1;-components and 0-components of a Clarke transformation, a location-dependent characteristic function of &#x3b1;-component and 0-component fault voltage values is defined in each case using the converted components and a propagation model for travelling waves on the line. The fault location is determined to be the location at which the two characteristic functions exhibit the closest match.

A method detects a fault on a line of an electrical power supply system, in which current values are measured at the line ends of the line and the current values are used to check whether there is a fault on the line. In order to perform monitoring of the line such that faults can be detected comparatively quickly and sensitively, it is proposed that voltage values are also measured at the line ends. The respective measured current and voltage values are used to ascertain respective comparison current values indicating the current flowing at a comparison location on the line and the respective comparison current values are used to check for the presence of a fault on the line, and a fault signal is generated if the check has resulted in a fault present on the line being detected.

A method determines a fault position of a fault on an electrical line. First time stamped current and voltage values are measured at a first line end. Second time stamped current and voltage values are measured at a second line end. The fault position of the line is determined from these measured values. To carry out positioning of a data window for fault location according to the traveling wave principle, after the first current and voltage values are measured at the first line end, the second current and voltage values are determined, which indicate the current or voltage at the second line end. Estimated second current or voltage values are compared with the values measured at the second line end, and the first and second current and voltage values that lie within a period of time established by a first data window are employed to determine a first fault position.

A fault location of a fault on a line of an electrical energy supply network is determined from measured current and voltage values at the first and second line ends. Highly accurate fault location with measured values from both line ends is provided even in the absence of temporal synchronization of the measurements at the line ends. Characteristics of first and second fictitious fault voltage values present at a fictitious fault location on the line are defined using the first and second current and voltage values. A fictitious fault location is determined for which the characteristic of the first fictitious fault voltage values corresponds most closely to the characteristic of the second fictitious fault voltage values. The fictitious fault location is used as the actual fault location. We also describe a correspondingly configured device and a system for determining a fault location.

The fault location of a fault on a line of an electrical energy supply network is determined. First and second current and/or voltage values are measured and provided with a timestamp at the line ends of the line. Following the occurrence of a fault, the timestamped first and second values are used to determine the fault location. Profiles of travelling waves propagating along the line towards the line ends when the fault occurs are determined from the timestamped first and second values at both line ends. The fault location is defined from the profiles of the travelling waves from a time difference with which the travelling waves arrive at the two line ends. The time difference is derived from a pattern comparison of the profiles of the travelling waves determined for the line ends.

A method for detecting a short circuit on a multiphase electrical energy supply network line includes recording current and voltage sampled values and generating a fault signal upon a fault evaluation performed by an electrical protection device indicating a short circuit. Instantaneous reference voltage values are calculated from instantaneous current and voltage sampled values recorded before the short, and instantaneous comparative voltage values are calculated from instantaneous current and voltage sampled values recorded before the short and instantaneous current and voltage sampled values recorded during the short, to generate a fault signal quickly. Then a rectified reference voltage value is calculated from consecutive instantaneous reference voltage values, and a rectified comparative voltage value is calculated from consecutive instantaneous comparative voltage values. The fault signal is generated if a difference between rectified comparative voltage and rectified reference voltage values exceeds a triggering threshold value. A corresponding electrical protection device is provided.
