A metal alloy powder containing at least two alloying elements selected from the group of Ni, Cu, Cr, Sn, Mn, Co and W containing 1 to 99% by weight Ni, 1 to 99% by weight Cu, 6 to 60% by weight Cr, 6 to 15% by weight Sn, 6 to 15% by weight Mn, 6 to 15% by weight Co, and/or 6 to 15% by weight W for use in laminated ceramic capacitors with an internal electrode wherein said electrode comprises a sintered body of said alloy powder. The present invention is concerned with a method for the production of fine and ultrafine powders of various materials such as metals, alloys, ceramics, composites etc., through a transferred arc plasma system. The method comprises vaporizing or decomposing the material in the plasma reactor, condensing the vapor in a quench tube comprising two sections, the first one for indirectly cooling or heating the vapor, and the second one for directly cooling the vapor. The powder is recovered in a conventional collection unit. The two step condensation in the quench tube allows a substantial control of powder properties like crystallinity, size distribution and mean particle size.

The present invention is concerned with a system for the filtration of molten material. The system is particularly useful for removing MgO impurities present in molten magnesium chloride electrolyte. The invention also comprises a method for removing solid particles from molten materials. Preferred molten materials include magnesium, aluminum, magnesium chloride electrolyte and aluminum electrolyte. The concentration of solid remaining in the molten material is less than 0.05 wt %.

The present invention is concerned with an adjustable baffling system for uniformly cooling billet loads of metal. The baffles have been design to adjust automatically to the load of billets after insertion of a car containing the billets thereon in the chamber, thus reducing the chances of having billet loads of uneven compositions. The present system is particularly useful for uniform cooling of aluminum billets.
