A compressor housing includes a compressor inlet duct and an inlet for a compressor wheel. The compressor inlet duct has a longitudinal axis and connects an air intake duct with the compressor wheel inlet. The compressor housing includes at least one appendix positioned between an upstream portion of the compressor inlet duct and the compressor wheel inlet. The appendix includes a pipe closed in a distal part thereof with respect to the longitudinal axis of the compressor inlet duct.

A method and apparatus for cleaning up a particulate filter of an internal combustion engine is provided. The internal combustion engine is operated to regenerate the particulate filter measuring. During the regeneration, a value of an engine speed is determined. A temperature of the particulate filter is controlled, if the measured value of the engine speed is smaller than or equal to a predetermined threshold value thereof. The particulate filter temperature is controlled by boosting the internal combustion engine and supplying the internal combustion engine with an amount of recirculated exhaust gases.

A turbocharged automotive system includes an internal combustion engine and a Long Route Exhaust Gas Recirculation system connected to an exhaust line of the engine. The LR-EGR system is equipped with a LR-EGR cooler, which is cooled by a LR-EGR coolant circuit receiving coolant from an engine coolant circuit. The turbocharged automotive system further includes a low temperature coolant circuit and a connecting element for connecting the LR-EGR coolant circuit with the low temperature coolant circuit bypassing the engine coolant circuit.

An internal combustion engine includes an air intake system in communication with a plurality of cylinders. An exhaust system is in communication with the plurality of cylinders. An EGR passage is in communication with the exhaust system and the air intake system. The EGR passage includes an EGR cooler with an EGR inlet end with a passage having a first portion extending in one direction in an assembled condition toward an intermediate section. The passage includes a second portion extending in an opposite direction from the intermediate section toward an EGR outlet end. A first cooler matrix is disposed in the first portion and a second, optional, cooler matrix disposed in the second portion. A thermally separated bypass channel is provided to allow a fast warm-up and guarantee the lowest possible pressure drop. The EGR cooler shape allows a compact packaging around the bypass pipe.

A two stage turbocharger for an internal combustion engine, the two stage turbocharger comprising a high pressure turbine fluidly connected to an exhaust manifold of the engine through a high pressure turbine inlet duct and a low pressure turbine fluidly connected to the high pressure turbine through a low pressure turbine inlet duct, wherein the low pressure turbine is a variable geometry turbine, wherein the two stage turbocharger comprise a bypass duct system to bypass the variable geometry low pressure turbine, wherein the bypass duct system comprises a bypass valve.

A cooling system for an internal combustion engine is disclosed which includes a coolant pump for circulating a coolant in a coolant circuit and a radiator disposed in the coolant circuit. A charged-air cooler is disposed in the coolant circuit downstream of the radiator, and a long-route exhaust-gas-recirculation cooler disposed in the coolant circuit downstream of the charged-air cooler and upstream of the radiator.
