A user equipment (UE) is configured with a carrier aggregation (CA) functionality and UE connected to a network via a base station that serves as a primary serving cell (PCell) providing a primary component carrier (PCC) to the UE. The UE determines a plurality of bands that are supported by the UE for use in the CA functionality, generates an individual band information element (IE) including band information for the bands, determines at least one representative CA combination having an order, the order indicating a total number of component carriers (CCs), the at least one representative CA combination forming a basis to extrapolate a plurality of CA combinations having the order based on the band information, generates a representative CA combination IE including the at least one representative CA combination and transmits the individual band IE and the representative CA combination IE to the base station.

Carrier aggregation capability advertisement

A device, e.g. a wireless communication device may obtain information associated with private cellular networks from a provisioning server. The information may provide an indication of coverage area(s) of available private cellular network(s). The device may communicate over a commercial cellular network, and determine, based at least on the information, whether the device is located within the coverage area of any available private cellular networks. The device may connect to a first private cellular network (FPCN) of the available private cellular networks and switch from communicating over the commercial cellular network to communicating over the FPCN at least in response to the determination indicating that the device is located within the indicated coverage area. The device may disconnect from the FPCN in response to a determination that the signal level of the FPCN is below a specified value and the device is not using a wallet garden application.

Device support for scalable neutral host and private LTE/5G network discovery, and device mobility

Distributing indications of emergency messages via Wi-Fi. A cellular device may temporarily disable its cellular modem. The cellular device may receive an indication over Wi-Fi that an emergency message has been broadcast. In response, the cellular device may activate its cellular modem and retrieve the emergency message via a cellular network.

CMAS alert procedures over Wi-Fi for low power devices

A user equipment (UE) device may communicate according to a new device category satisfying specified QoS (quality of service) requirements while also satisfying specified link budget requirements, and additional optimization requirements. The new device category may identify the UE device as a wearable device. According to some embodiments, LTE category M may be extended to support non-MTC operations performed by wearable devices. For example, the new device category may support UE mobility and may disallow access barring. Additional extensions may be implemented in response to an indication by the UE that the UE is implementing a specific application, such as VoLTE or a near real-time application, such as audio streaming. In some scenarios, the indication may include the UE indicating a specific QCI value. In some scenarios, the indication may include the UE attaching to a specific APN.

Adaptive throughput and bandwidth for enhanced category of mobile devices

A wireless communication device (UE) includes a cellular processor configured to conduct wireless communications according to a first radio access technology (RAT) in a first frequency band and in a second frequency band, wherein the first RAT is a cellular RAT, the first frequency band is in an unlicensed spectrum, and the second frequency band is in a licensed spectrum. In some embodiments, the apparatus includes a wireless local area network (WLAN) processor configured to conduct wireless communications according to a second RAT in the first frequency band. In some embodiments, the cellular processor and the WLAN processor are configured to couple to a common antenna for communications in the first frequency band. In some embodiments, the cellular processor may notify the WLAN processor when it is scanning and/or when it is assigned secondary component carriers in the first frequency band. In some embodiments, the WLAN processor may notify the cellular processor when it is transmitting. In some embodiments, the WLAN processor and/or the cellular processor may perform one or more actions in response to such notifications to improve coexistence in the first frequency band.

LAA/WiFi Coexistence for 5GHz antenna sharing

A method, system, and medium are provided for facilitating navigation data updates. One embodiment of the method includes receiving an indication that a navigation route is unavailable. The indication that the navigation route is unavailable is provided by a user of a mobile device. A notification of the unavailable navigation route is communicated to a navigation server. The unavailable navigation route is excluded in subsequently provided navigation routes.

Facilitating navigation data updates

A station that performs methods related to emergency calls. In one example, the station determines that a first connection to a cellular network is unavailable, the client station being associated with a home network having a home Public-Safety Answering Point (PSAP), the station disposed at a location outside the home network, the location having a remote PSAP. The station determines a second connection to a WiFi network is available, establishes the second connection to the WiFi network and performs an emergency call over the WiFi network. The emergency call being routed to the remote PSAP associated with the location. In another example, the station determines it is capable of performing an emergency call over a cellular network, receives a request to perform an emergency call, determines whether a circuit switched radio access technology (CS-RAT) is available and performs the emergency call over a WiFi network when the CS-RAT is unavailable.

System and method for performing emergency calls over WiFi when a cellular network is unavailable

A wireless communication device operates between a WiFi link and an LTE link. The device receives a request indicating a user identifier and determines if the user identifier has sufficient usage credit. If there is sufficient usage credit, the device exchanges WiFi signals and LTE signals including user communications. The device decrements the usage credit and transfers usage credit consumption over the LTE link. After decrementing the usage credit, the device determines if the user identifier has sufficient usage credit, and if the user identifier does not, the device transfers a credit request and receives an additional usage credit for the user identifier over the LTE link. The device exchanges additional WiFI signals and LTE signals including additional user communications. The device decrements the additional usage credit and transfers additional usage credit consumption over the LTE link.

Wireless device access to communication services through another wireless device

A user identity module (UIM) is incorporated in user equipment such as a mobile phone or mobile device. The UIM is configured to provision itself while roaming away from a home network as follows. The UIM may: send to the UE a request for information identifying a current radio access technology (RAT) that the UE is camped on; receive the current RAT information from the UE; send to the UE a request for network location information, where the network location information identifies a network in which the UE is currently camped; receive the network location information from the UE; generate an access point name (APN) using the current RAT information and the network location information; and open a channel through the network to a remote agent (e.g., a provisioning server) using the access point name.

Initiating bearer independent protocol sessions using access technology and location information

Disclosed are a method, apparatus, and system for managing frequency use in a system while engaged in multiple communications. When a wireless communication device (WCD) is engaging in a first communication on a first frequency, the WCD receives a request for the WCD to engage in a second communication. Responsive to receiving the request, the WCD hands off the first communication from the first frequency to a second frequency and engages in the second communication on the first frequency. The method may thereby help to reduce likelihood of interference.

Method and apparatus for frequency management

A method, system and medium are provided for automatically routing an incoming call to one active wireless-telecommunications device of a set of devices associated with a single wireless-telecommunications-network subscriber. A proximity-based relationship is created between a primary device and a nonprimary device. Upon receiving an indication that the primary device is within a threshold proximity of the nonprimary device, a request is communicated to the network to associate a set of user credentials of the primary device and a set of hardware credentials of the primary device with the nonprimary device. The nonprimary device is thereby activated so that it can receive an incoming call. The primary device is deactivated so that the subscriber can only receive an incoming call on one device at a time.

Proximity-based device switching

A method, system and medium are provided for receiving an incoming call on a target wireless-telecommunications device. A secure communication path is established between a primary device and a nonprimary device, and a proximity-based relationship is created between the primary device and the nonprimary device. The primary device has associated with it a set of user credentials and a set of hardware credentials. When the nonprimary device comes within a threshold proximity of the primary device, the primary device automatically communicates the set of user credentials and the set of hardware credentials to the nonprimary device thereby activating it so that it can receive an incoming call. The primary device is deactivated so that a wireless-telecommunications-network subscriber can only receive an incoming call on one device at a time.

Using access technology and location information to smartly initiate bearer independent protocol sessions

Methods and computer-readable media are provided to determine optimal locations at which it is suggested that a mobile device download portions of a map corresponding to an initial location and a destination location. A navigation server receives an indication of an initial location and a destination location from the mobile device and retrieves a map corresponding to a route between the two locations. A first download location is determined based on one or more of signal strength, a time of day that the map is likely to be downloaded, periods of known high saturation, a battery level of the mobile device, and/or a cost associated with roaming. Using one or more of these factors, the first download location is determined and is communicated to the mobile device.
