A surgical system for controlling fluid pressure during a surgical procedure is provided. Example systems include an inflow pump coupled to a fluid source and defining an outlet port. An inflow cannula is coupled to the outlet port of the inflow pump and includes a barcode disposed thereon. An endoscope extends from a proximal end to a distal end and includes a shaft. A camera is coupled at the proximal end of the endoscope and provides visualization of a surgical site through the shaft and output a corresponding imagery signal. A pump control unit is coupled to the inflow pump and controls an outlet pressure of the inflow pump. A camera control unit is coupled to the camera and to the pump control unit and receives the imagery signal and decodes the barcode and conveys information indicative of a pressure loss across the inflow cannula to the pump control unit.

Cannula identification for use with fluid management

A surgical instrument including a reusable and sterilizable hub assembly and a releasably connectable disposable blade assembly allows multiple reuse of the hub assembly in conjunction with single use disposable blade assemblies.

Reusable blade hub assembly

A surgical system can include a first instrument defining a first channel and a second instrument receivable by the first channel. The second instrument can include a second channel. A valve coupled to the first instrument controls fluid flow through the first channel. The valve has at least two positions and in one position, the impedance of fluid flow through the valve into the first channel (when the second instrument is not received in the first channel) is substantially the same as when the valve is the other position and the first channel partially blocked by the second instrument. In another aspect, a surgical system can include an outer member and the first instrument can be received within the outer member to define a second channel there between. The first instrument can include a visualization system and an illumination system.

Tissue resection system

A hysteroscopy system includes a scope having an internal channel, a sheath removably coupled to the scope, and an outflow channel. The sheath has a distal flange extending internally towards an outer surface of the scope. The outflow channel is formed between an inner surface of the sheath and an outer surface of the scope. The distal flange forms a distal end of the outflow channel and is generally located between the scope and the sheath.

Hysteroscopic system

A surgical system includes a first instrument defining a first channel and a second instrument receivable by the first channel. The second instrument defines a second channel. A valve coupled to the first instrument controls fluid flow through the first channel, such that impedance of fluid flow through the first channel is substantially the same without the second instrument received in the first channel and with the first channel partially blocked by the second instrument. In another aspect, a surgical apparatus includes an outer member and an inner member received within the outer member to define a first channel therebetween. The inner member houses an optical lens and defines a second channel for receiving a surgical instrument. The first and second channels are configured such that a pump having an inflow rate of up to about 0.7 L/min connected to the second channel can maintain fluid pressure inside an organ.

Tissue resecting system

Example embodiments include a drive unit and a hub and cutting implement that may be coupled to the hub by use of a latch between the hub and the drive unit. The latch may be configured to couple with the drive unit at locations on the perimeter of the drive unit. Some embodiments of the invention also include one or both of resection controls and fluid management systems.

Surgical handpiece and latching hub system

A medical device that includes an outer tube assembly that includes a straight outer tube, an inner tube assembly that includes a straight inner tube disposed within the outer tube, and at least one interference member on the outer tube assembly and at least one interference member on the inner tube assembly. The inner tube and the outer tube are configured to rotate relative to each other to resect tissue at a distal end of the inner and outer tubes. The interference members are configured to prevent a force exerted along a longitudinal axis of the inner tube from separating the inner and outer tubes without rendering the medical device unusable.

Medical device

A surgical instrument includes a hub, a rotating member, an impeller, and an impeller enclosure. The hub has a proximal portion and a distal portion and defines a lumen therebetween. The distal portion of the hub includes a sleeve portion configured to rotatably support the rotating member. The rotating member extends through the hub and has a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end of the rotating member is configured to couple to an external driving mechanism. The impeller is coupled to the distal end of the rotating member and is configured to accelerate fluid flowing into or out of the lumen. The impeller enclosure is coupled to the distal portion of the hub and defines an impeller volume around the impeller. One or more openings are defined around the sleeve portion of the hub such that the lumen is in fluid communication with the impeller volume.

Medical pump

An inner assembly for a modular surgical drive hub includes a drive adapter, an inner blade adapter, and a compression member, the inner blade adapter mounted within the drive adapter and biased in a distal direction by the compression member, the drive adapter and the inner blade adapter including a key-way and a key for transmitting rotational force from the drive adapter to the inner blade adapter; wherein the inner assembly is configured to be inserted into and retained within the modular surgical drive hub.
