The present invention relates to compositions thermally curable on demand by red to near infrared irradiation, method of using same for thermal amplification of free radical polymerizations, and articles obtained by such method. The invention also relates to the use of a heat-generating dye in association with a thermal initiator for controlling the onset of thermal free radical polymerization.

The present invention relates to a dental composition comprising a specific polymerization initiator system comprising a compound having an acylsilyl- or acylgermanyl-group. The present invention also relates the use of the compound having an acylsilyl- or acylgermanyl group for the preparation of a dental composition.

Disclosed herein is a dental composition having a polymerization initiator system with an aromatic tertiary phosphine compound. Further disclosed is the use of the aromatic tertiary phospine compound for the preparation of a photocurable dental compositions.

The present invention relates to a dental composition comprising an initiator system comprising a sensitizer compound having an acylsilyl- or acylgermyl-group and a specific coinitiator compound. The present invention also relates to an initiator system consisting essentially of the sensitizer compound having an acylsilyl- or acylgermyl-group and a coinitiator compound wherein a C&#x2014;H bond dissociation energy is less than 95 Kcal/mol. Furthermore, the present invention relates to the use of this initiator system for the preparation of a dental composition.
