A drivetrain architecture may include a first shaft for connection to a torque source, a first sun gear attached to the first shaft, a second sun gear attached to a second shaft, a first planet gear attached to a third shaft and in meshing engagement with the first sun gear, a second planet gear attached to the third shaft, a ring gear attached to a fourth shaft and in meshing engagement with the second planet gear, a planet carrier attached to a fifth shaft, the planet carrier supporting the third shaft, a sixth shaft for connection to a first motor generator, a seventh shaft for connection to a second motor generator, a first gear set connecting the second shaft and the sixth shaft, a second gear set connecting the fourth shaft and an eighth shaft and a third gear set connecting the fifth shaft and the seventh shaft.

Drivetrain architecture

An agricultural, construction, or industrial vehicle or machine has a driveline including an engine, a power-shuttle transmission connected to the engine, and at least one drive axle driven by an output shaft of the power-shuttle transmission. The power-shuttle transmission has an input shaft, a forward shuttle gear train, and a reverse shuttle gear train. Each shuttle gear train has a shuttle clutch selectively coupling it with the input shaft. The forward shuttle gear train drives the output shaft when the forward shuttle clutch is engaged, and the reverse shuttle gear train drives the output shaft when the reverse shuttle clutch is engaged. The at least one drive axle has at least one service brake. A hydraulic energy recapture system is coupled to the output shaft of the power-shuttle transmission and works in cooperation with the shuttle clutches and with the service brakes.

A system for operating a work vehicle may include an engine and a transmission coupled to the engine. The transmission may include a planetary gear unit configured to be selectively coupled to the engine by engaging one of two directional clutches of the transmission. The transmission may also include a hydrostatic drive unit having an input configured to be rotationally coupled to the engine and an output configured to be rotationally coupled to the planetary gear unit. Moreover, the transmission may include a bypass shaft assembly having a bypass shaft configured to be selectively coupled between the output of the hydrostatic drive unit and a given range clutch of the transmission via a bypass clutch. In addition, the system may include a controller configured to operate the transmission in a hydrostatic bypass mode by disengaging the directional clutches and by engaging the bypass clutch and the given range clutch.

System and method for operating a continuously variable transmission of a work vehicle in a hydrostatic bypass mode

A swash plate angle for a hydrostatic power unit of a continuously variable hydromechanical transmission is determined using a feedforward compensation term, to reduce reliance on closed loop control. The feedforward term is based on knowledge of the hydrostatic power unit determined as a function of knowledge of certain parameters, including, but not limited to, hydrostatic power unit pressure, swash plate angle, desired hydrostatic power unit ratio, and pump speed.

A hydro-mechanical continuously variable transmission for producing high torque output is provided. One transmission includes an engine drive shaft driven by an engine and a planetary gear unit driven by power from the engine and to provide power to drive a transmission output shaft. The transmission also includes a hydrostatic drive unit driven by power from the engine and to drive a primary hydrostatic drive shaft. The transmission includes an engine clutch to be driven by the engine and to drive an input sun gear of the planetary gear unit while engaged. The transmission includes a secondary hydrostatic drive shaft driven by the primary hydrostatic drive shaft and to drive a ring gear of the planetary gear unit. The transmission includes a hydrostatic output clutch driven by the secondary hydrostatic drive shaft and to provide power to drive an output sun gear of the planetary gear unit while engaged.

Hydro-mechanical continuously variable transmission for producing high torque output

The method of estimating and controlling driveline torque in a continuously variable hydro-mechanical transmission uses pressure data and other metrics of a hydrostatic power unit of the transmission in lieu of actual driveline torque data. A mechanical efficiency of the transmission is determined as a function of whether the power unit is operating in a power generation or regeneration mode, and the torque output of the power unit is estimated from that and other hydrostatic parameters. This is used to estimate a torque output of a planetary power unit of the transmission, and the torque on an output member of the driveline is then estimated using that value, and appropriate corrective action taken.

Method for estimating and controlling driveline torque in a continuously variable hydro-mechanical transmission

A transmission for use with a power source and a load includes a primary sun gear adapted to be coupled to the power source, a hydrostatic power unit including a pump coupled to a motor, a ring gear driven by the motor, a secondary sun gear coupled to a first output shaft, a compound planetary gear carrier coupled to a second output shaft and a compound planetary gear carried by the compound planetary gear carrier and in engagement with the ring gear and the secondary sun gear. The first output shaft and the second output shaft are adapted to be selectively coupled to the load.

Continuously variable hydro-mechanical transmission

A continuously variable hydro-mechanical transmission. The transmission includes a transmission housing and a hydrostatic power unit associated with the housing. The hydrostatic power unit includes a pump coupled to a motor with the hydrostatic power unit coupled to a first input shaft and a first output shaft. The hydrostatic power unit is selectively coupled to a synchronous lockup clutch with the first output shaft, wherein a hydrostatic input speed range is selected. A compound planetary gear unit is mounted in the housing with the compound planetary gear unit including a second input shaft, a third input shaft, a fourth input shaft and a second output shaft. The compound planetary gear unit is selectively coupled to the load, selectively coupled to the hydrostatic power unit and coupled to the power source. A load shaft coupled to the load and mounted for rotation in the housing is selectively coupled to the compound planetary gear unit through an intermediate shaft supporting a range gear set mounted for rotation in the housing and selectively coupled to the compound planetary gear unit and the load shaft.
