An improved safety belt tension eliminator which allows the wearer to ease the belt pressure on his body after the belt is attached. The control mechanism for the tension eliminator has an improved stop-follower mechanism which is uniquely spring mounted, adjusted and actuated.

Comfort lock mechanism

The disclosure relates to a mechanical release for the comfort mechanism of a safety belt retractor. The release precludes inadvertent lockup of the retractor system when the safety belt is substantially fully extended.

Safety belt tension eliminator with webbing sensitive release

An anchor plate is made from a strip of metal of narrow width having a bend in the center, a cylindrical aperture in one end and a D-shaped aperture in the opposite end. The cloth belt has one side folded over the central portion and the other side folded over the folded side portion providing three thicknesses of reduced width which extends through the D-shaped aperture with the end spread out and stitched to the adjacent main body portion of the belt. The end extending beyond the cylindrical aperture has offset areas which interlock with a plate on the floor to limit the angular movement of the anchor plate.

Floor anchor for seat belt

The disclosure relates to a seat belt control system for a two-door vehicle having a folding front seat. As the front seat is folded forward, an arm mounted along the side of the back of the seat raises the shoulder strap out of the entrant's way, thus providing unobstructed access to the rear seat of the vehicle.

Seat belt control system

An automatic locking seat belt retractor is disclosed. The seat belt is wound on a spring-actuated spool which exerts a constant belt retracting force on the belt while allowing it to be protracted manually off the spool. A mechanism is provided for locking the belt against protraction at any desired degree of extension by locking the spool against unwinding rotation. The locking mechanism operates in response to a limited retracting movement of the spool and consists of a pawl and ratchet normally biased to an engaging position to prevent unwinding rotation of the spool. An indexing finger is attached to the pawl and a grooved plate is attached to the spool. The free end of the indexing finger is in contact with the grooved plate, the grooves thereon indexing the finger to a desired position according to the protracted or retracted condition of the belt. The position of the pawl is controlled relative to the ratchet in accordance with the position of the indexing finger on the grooved plate.

Locking seat belt retractor

The disclosure relates to an inertia operated latch structure for preventing forward movement of a pivoted vehicle seat back upon impact or sudden deceleration. The latch structure comprises a primary inertia member supported for pivotal movement between a normal released position and an inertia induced locked position. The primary inertia member includes a track in which a secondary inertia member is positioned. The primary inertia member is movable from a normal position to an inertia induced position upon sudden deceleration and is maintained in this latter condition by the secondary inertia member.

Latch structure for vehicle seats

A safety belt mechanism of the spring-actuated spool type which includes mechanism for permitting belt protraction and retraction and with which an improved belt position control mechanism is combined to allow a limited protraction of the belt by the user after the belt has reached an initial position of protraction in a secured position against the user to accomplish, first, an easing of the belt pressure on the user and, second, the assumption of a locked position against retraction of the belt in that eased position until the belt is selectively released by the user.
