A light-emitting device includes an organometallic complex of the form Z-M-Z, as light emitting material. M is Pd(0) or Pt(0) and Z is a nitrogen containing heterocyclic carbene ligand. Zis a phosphorus ligand or a nitrogen containing heterocyclic carbene ligand that may be the same as or different from Z. The light emitting device may be an organic light-emitting diode (OLED), a sensor, or a light-emitting electrochemical cell (LEEC).

Luminescent palladium(0) and platinum(0) carbene complexes for OLEDs

Cis and trans ruthenium complexes that can be used as catalysts for ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) are described. The complexes are generally square pyramidal in nature, having two anionic ligands X. Corresponding cationic complexes where one or both of the anionic ligands X are replaced by a non-co-ordinating anionic ligand are also described. Polymers such as polydicyclopentadiene (PDCPD) can be prepared using the catalysts.

Ruthenium polymerisation catalysts

The invention provides a method of alkene metathesis comprising contacting at least a first alkene, which is cardanol and/or anacardic acid, with an alkylidene ruthenium alkene metathesis catalyst comprising two ligands Pand P, which may be the same or different and of formula P(R), in which P is a phosphorus atom coordinated to the ruthenium ion and each Ris independently an optionally substituted alkyl or alkoxy group; or two Rgroups within one Por Pligand constitute an optionally substituted bicycloalkyl.

Metathesis reactions with cardanol and/or anacardic acid

Cis ruthenium complexes that can be used as catalysts are described. The complexes are generally square pyramidal in nature, having two anionic ligands X adjacent to each other. The complexes can be used as catalysts, for example in olefin metathesis reactions. Corresponding trans ruthenium complexes are also described, together with cationic complexes where one or both of the anionic ligands X are replaced by a non-co-ordinating anionic ligand.

Ruthenium complexes for use in olefin metathesis

The use of a complex of the form Z&#x2014;M&#x2014;OR in the carboxylation of a substrate is described. The group Z is a two-electron donor ligand, M is a metal and OR is selected from the group consisting of OH, alkoxy and aryloxy. The substrate may be carboxylated at a C&#x2014;H or N&#x2014;H bond. The metal M may be copper, silver or gold. The two-electron donor ligand may be a phosphine, a carbene or a phosphite ligand. Also described are methods of manufacture of the complexes and methods for preparing isotopically labelled caboxylic acids and carboxylic acid derivatives.
