A device that reduces subcutaneous adipose tissue using a matrix of LEDs to heat and destroy fat cells. The surface facing the patient's skin may be a plate of thermally conductive material such as copper or aluminum, with apertures for the LEDs. Fat reduction may be optimized using infrared LEDs with peak spectral power in the range of 920 nm to 950 nm. The device may include multiple light emitting sections connected with flexible couplings so that the device can conform to curved body shapes; treatment surfaces of individual sections may also be curved. Sections may include cooling mechanisms to cool both the LEDs and the plate facing the patient's skin, such as thermoelectric cooling elements and air or water circulation. A user interface may provide monitoring and control of treatment parameters. The device may incorporate ultraviolet LEDs to facilitate removal of an adhesive attaching the device to the patient.

A device includes an optical scanner that comprises a mirror, a first actuator that rotates the mirror around a first axis of rotation, a first angular position sensor that senses an angular position of the mirror around the first axis of rotation, a second actuator that rotates the mirror around a second axis of rotation, a second angular position sensor that senses an angular position of the mirror around the second axis of rotation, and a controller coupled to the first and second drivers to drive the respective first and second actuators to rotate the mirror into respective angles around the first and second axes of rotation.

A handpiece for treatment of the surface of a target tissue with at least one light beam is provided, the handpiece including a housing, at least one light source for generating at least one light beam, an opening for allowing the emission of the at least one light beam out of the housing and towards the target surface, a mechanism for controlled displacement of the at least one light source to move the at least one light beam across the target surface; and a controller for controlling the mechanism. A method is provided for treating a tissue surface with a light beam that includes directing a light beam towards the tissue surface, focusing the light beam at the tissue surface so that the focal point is positioned proximate the surface of the tissue so that the diameter of the light beam is smaller at the surface of the tissue than below the surface. The light beam is moved to create a pattern on the tissue, and it is moved in response to manual movement of the handpiece to overcome unwanted movements and provide a desired spot pattern on the tissue surface.

Self-contained handpiece and method for optical tissue surface treatment

A handpiece for tissue treatment is provided. The handpiece has receiving means for receiving a first light beam, at least two components and selector device being movable between at least two positions, each position corresponding to a component. The selector device may be moved between the two positions, thereby positioning a selected component in a beam path of the first light beam. The selected component provide one or more functions, such as sensing, emitting a third light beam, emitting no light beam, and/or emitting a second light beam in response to the first light beam being incident on the selected component. The second or third light beam may, if present, be emitted towards a target area, or said light beam(s) may be deflected towards a target area. Furthermore, a method for tissue treatment using such a handpiece, and a selector device for use in such a handpiece is provided.

Handpiece for tissue treatment

A method and apparatus for tissue treatment. A handpiece contains a light source for emitting a light beam toward the tissue. A detector detects at least one tissue parameter along a path during an initial scan. This information is stored and a map of the parameter produced. A light beam controller controls a light beam parameter and controls a deflector in order to apply the light beam to the tissue in a predetermined path.

Apparatus for tissue treatment and having a monitor for display of tissue features

An apparatus for tisue treatment is provided, comprising a light source for emission of a treating light beam towards a target surface and illuminating a spot on the target surface, movable deflecting means for deflection of the treating light beam, moving means for moving the deflection means, and deflecting control means being adapted to control the moving means so that the treating light beam traverses a target surface area stepwise with steps that are greater than half the diameter of the spot. Furthermore, a controlled overlap between illuminated spots may be provided, for example by user selection. The apparatus may be provided in a hand piece. The apparatus may preferably be used for removal of hairs, but also photocoagulation of veins may be obtained.

Apparatus for tissue treatment

A handpiece for cosmetic tissue treatment includes an input connector for connection of a first beam-outlet end of a first optical fiber to the handpiece and for alignment of the first optical fiber with an axis of the handpiece so that a first light beam emitted from the first beam-outlet end is transmitted substantially along the axis, a movable first deflecting device for deflection of the first light beam into a second light beam, and an output for emission of the second light beam towards a target surface. The handpiece may be used for ablating a thin epidermal layer of the derma of a patient and also marks on the tissue such as marks from chloasma, liver spots, red spots, tattoos, blood vessels just below the surface, etc. In addition, warts, wounds, hair follicles, etc., may be ablated or treated.

An apparatus for cosmetic tissue treatment having a light emitter for emission of a light beam. The light beam is directed towards a target area to be treated, and a detector detects tissue parameters in the target area. A light beam control controls at least one parameter of the first light beam in response to the detected at least one tissue parameters. The tissue parameters can include texture, elasticity, size, and shape. The apparatus may be used for ablating a thin epidermal layer of the derma of a patient and also marks on the tissue such as marks from chloasma, liver spots, red spots, tattoos, blood vessels just below the surface, etc., as well as warts, wounds, hair follicles, etc., may be ablated or treated.
