An isolation mount for use in motor vehicles in which the mount is sandwiched between the subframe and body. The mount includes an elastomeric upper mount and lower mount and a threaded fastener drawing the two elastomeric mounts together. The upper mount has an insert member with an oblong shape in the lateral displacement direction of the vehicle. The oblong shape increases the volume of elastomer that can be used to respond to lateral forces and reduces the stresses developed on the elastomer. The lateral response rate is stiffer than the fore and aft response rate and both are stiffer than the vertical response rate.

Isolation mount

A speed sensing seal with a first support member, a second support member, a magnetic elastomer member, a sensor member and an elastomeric seal member is disclosed. The magnetic elastomeric member with alternating adjacent poles is formed on the first support member and the sensor member is attached to an aperture in the second support member and overmolded with a layer of elastomer. The first and second support members are formed in the unitized body to form an internal cavity which contains the sensor, magnetic member, and the elastomeric seal. The first support member has a low wear surface to reduce initial seal failures and to enhance seal life.

Speed sensor with a seal

An isolation mount for use in a motor vehicle is disclosed. The motor vehicle has a body portion and a subframe portion. The subframe has a through hole. The isolation mount includes a thimble member having a flanged portion and an axially extending tube portion. An annular foamed elastomeric member is adjacent to the thimble member. The annular member having a radially outwardly extending one end portion, an opposite end portion and an inner passage. The opposite end portion is acceptable in a slidable fit into the through hole from one side of the subframe portion to the other side. The opposite end portion being movable radially outwardly when the opposite end is axially advanced past said through hole and said one end portion being axially advanced to be adjacent to the one side of the subframe portion. The length of the annular member is related to the length of the through hole so that when the tube portion is inserted into the inner passage at the opposite end portion, the thimble member advances axially toward the one end and the flanged member compresses the radially outwardly potion until the end of the tube portion is adjacent to the one end portion of the annular member. Optionally, a rubber bushing member is disposed around the axially extending portion to improve the stiffness and the stiffness rate in the lateral and fore and aft directions.

An engine cover assembly for use in an internal combustion engine. The engine cover includes a composite plastic body and low creep material for the flange section of the engine cover. The low creep material allows for a low incident of creep at the bolts which secure the engine cover to the head of the engine. This insures the bolts will not loosen due to the degradation of the material to which the bolt is tightened. A mechanical or chemical lock is used to secure the plastic cover to the low creep material flange portion of the engine cover, The engine cover reduces the weight and the engine noise associated with the internal combustion engine.

A new elastomeric grommet-fastener assembly for use in connection with first and second apertured workpieces, for example in connecting a valve cover to an automotive engine block, with the fastener assembly being comprised of a fastener with clamping surface thereunder, a shank, and a reduced diameter entry portion; a washer member including a radial flange portion and an axially extending washer sleeve, with the washer means being telescopically positioned on the fastener shank; and an elastomeric grommet means, being molded from an elastomer, and having an axially extending sleeve portion, and a radial rim portion extending laterally from an upper part of the sleeve portion, with said grommet being telescopically positioned over the washer; and the sleeve of said washer having at least one or more holes therethrough such that the molded grommet has a portion of its elastomer protruding through to the inside of the washer sleeve, thereby enabling the washer with its associated grommet member to be captured and held on the fastener shank while still permitting slight relative longitudinal movement between the fastener shank and the grommet-washer members; and, a new technique for securing the valve cover of an automotive engine in position which serves to substantially reduce or eliminate structural noise and vibrations associated with the valve cover securement.
