An IOP control system for treatment of an ocular condition includes a drainage device sized for implantation into the eye of the patient, the drainage device including a fluid flow pathway to allow the flow of fluid from an inlet port to an outlet port. The drainage device also includes a flow system disposed within the drainage device and including a displaceable portion forming a part of the fluid flow pathway, the displaceable portion being displaceable via a magnetic field. An actuation system may be physically separate from the drainage device and may be configured to cooperate with the displaceable portion to displace the displaceable portion via the magnetic field to set free buildup or debris in the flow pathway.

A system for implantation in an eye of a patient includes a flow device sized for implantation into the eye of the patient. The flow device includes a fluid flow passageway and a flow system. The flow system may include a regulator having a magnetic element, and may be displaceable in the fluid flow passageway to affect flow through the fluid flow passageway. The system may also include a control device physically separate from the flow device and configured to be disposed outside the eye, the control device comprising an actuator magnetic field generator configured to act on the magnetic element to adjust the regulator in the flow system to selectively adjust flow through the flow device in response to changes in intraocular pressure.

A method of implanting a treatment device into an eye of a patient comprises inserting a drainage device including a flow system, an inlet tube, and an outlet tube into a subconjunctival space. The inlet tube includes a proximal end coupled to the flow system in the subconjunctival space. The method includes passing a distal end of the inlet tube through a pars plana into a posterior segment of the eye.

Described herein is a method of implanting a glaucoma drainage device in an eye having a vitreous chamber and a drainage site. The glaucoma drainage device comprises a tube including a lumen extending from an inlet end to an outlet end, and includes a control element that regulates the amount of fluid flow through the glaucoma drainage device. The method comprises implanting the glaucoma drainage device into pars plana tissue from the vitreous chamber, such that the device extends between the vitreous chamber and the drainage site.

Devices, systems and methods for posterior segment drainage

Described herein is an IOP control device for implantation in an eye of a patient, comprising a housing including an inlet port and an outlet port, a fluid flow passageway configured to allow the flow of fluid from the inlet port to the outlet port, and at least one valve anchored within the housing. The at least one valve includes a first side and an opposing second side, and is configured to affect flow through the fluid flow passageway from the inlet port to the outlet port by moving in response to pressure differentials acting on the opposing first and second sides. The at least one valve is remotely adjustable between an active condition increasing resistance to the flow of fluid within the fluid flow passageway and an inactive condition decreasing resistance to the flow of fluid within the fluid flow passageway.

Externally adjustable passive drainage device

Described herein is an IOP control system for implantation in an eye of a patient, comprising a drainage device and a control device. The drainage system includes a housing including an inlet port and an outlet port, a fluid flow passageway extending from the inlet port to the outlet port to allow the flow of fluid therethrough, and at least one valve disposed within the housing. The at least one valve includes a first side and an opposing second side, and is configured to affect flow through the fluid flow passageway from the inlet port to the outlet port by moving in response to pressure differentials acting on the opposing sides. The control device comprises an actuator including an activated mode and a deactivated mode, and the actuator in the activated mode is configured to selectively adjust flow through the drainage device in response to changes in intraocular pressure.

An injection device includes a dispensing chamber, a plunger, a controller, a temperature control device, and a memory device. The dispensing chamber has an inner surface and an outer surface. The inner surface defines a cavity for receiving a quantity of a substance. The plunger is engaged with the inner surface of the dispensing chamber, is capable of sliding in the cavity of the dispensing chamber, and is fluidly sealed to the inner surface of the dispensing chamber. The controller controls the operation of the injection device. The temperature control device at least partially surrounds the dispensing chamber. The memory device has a parameter stored on it. The controller uses the parameter from the memory device to operate the injection device.

A method to perform high resolution tissue ablation including the steps of forming a beam to deliver optical energy and providing an energy dissipating material is provided. The steps of selecting an area of interest in a target tissue and placing the energy dissipating material adjacent to the area of interest may be included. The steps of directing the beam to the area of interest and scanning the beam across the area of interest to ablate the target tissue may be further included. Also provided is an apparatus and a system for high resolution tissue ablation including a beam to provide optical energy and an injector for placing an energy dissipating material adjacent to an area of interest. Further, the apparatus and system may include at least a mirror and a lens for directing the beam to the area of interest and scanning the beam to ablate target tissue.

A pellet loading apparatus has a pellet housing configured to receive and hold a plunger so that a cavity is formed by an interior surface of the pellet housing and the plunger. A pellet is located or formed in the cavity. A dispensing chamber housing is located in a disposable drug delivery device. The dispensing chamber housing is configured to couple with the pellet housing so that the plunger and the pellet can be loaded into the dispensing chamber housing.

The present invention is an ophthalmic injection system with a limited reuse assembly and a tip segment. The tip segment is connectable to and removable from the limited reuse assembly. The tip segment includes a dispensing chamber, a plunger, and a housing. The dispensing chamber holds a quantity of a substance to be injected into an eye. The proximate end of the plunger has a first mechanical linkage interface. The limited reuse assembly of the ophthalmic injection system has a power source, a controller, a motor, a second mechanical linkage interface located on an end of the motor shaft; and a second housing. The first mechanical linkage interface is mateable with the second mechanical linkage interface such that when the tip segment is connected to the limited reuse assembly, the first mechanical linkage interface mates with the second mechanical linkage interface so that motion of the shaft results in motion of the plunger.

The dispensing chamber housing has an inner surface and an outer surface. The inner surface partially defines a dispensing chamber for holding a quantity of a substance. A dosage of a substance is cast into the dispensing chamber housing or cast onto a plunger that is inserted into the dispensing chamber housing.

An ophthalmic injection system has a tip segment attachable to and removable from a limited reuse assembly. The tip segment has a dispensing chamber housing, a plunger, a needle, a temperature control device, a thermal sensor, and a first housing at least partially enclosing the dispensing chamber housing, the temperature control device and the plunger. The limited reuse assembly has an actuator with a shaft, a power source for providing power to the actuator, a controller for controlling the actuator, a mechanical linkage interface, and a second housing at least partially enclosing the power source, the controller, and the actuator. The mechanical linkage interface is coupled to the actuator shaft and has a mating surface on one end. The substance is injected after the temperature of the substance is altered.

An ophthalmic injection device has a dispensing chamber housing, a needle fluidly coupled to a dispensing chamber, a power source for providing current to the dispensing chamber housing, a controller for controlling the power source, and a housing at least partially enclosing the dispensing chamber housing, the power source, and the controller. The dispensing chamber housing is made of a shape memory alloy and has an inner surface defining a dispensing chamber for receiving a quantity of a substance. The controller directs a first current to the dispensing chamber housing to heat the substance contained in the dispensing chamber and a second current to the dispensing chamber housing to alter the shape of the dispensing chamber housing to deliver the substance.

An injection device includes a dispensing chamber, a plunger, a controller, a memory device resistant to sterilization, and a housing at least partially enclosing the dispensing chamber and the plunger. The plunger is engaged with the inner surface of the dispensing chamber, is capable of sliding in the cavity of the dispensing chamber, and is fluidly sealed to the inner surface of the dispensing chamber. The controller controls the operation of the injection device. The controller reads dosage data from the memory device and operates the injection device to deliver a dosage corresponding to the dosage data.
