A circulator is provided, comprising, first second and third conductors forming three equally spaced junctions and a permanent magnet configured to apply a shaped bias magnetic field to a ferrite resonator in operable communication with the first, second, and third conductors. The permanent magnet comprises a substantially planar monolithic structure having defined thereon at least first and second substantially concentric regions having first and second respective magnetic field strength levels, wherein the second magnetic field strength level is lower than the first magnetic field strength level. The first and second magnetic field strength levels are configured to cooperate to shape an external bias magnetic field of the permanent magnet to counteract at least a portion of a demagnetizing effect resulting from of an overall shape of the ferrite resonator, to achieve a substantially uniform internal magnetic bias within at least a portion of the ferrite resonator.

A surface mount device is disclosed. The surface mount device can include an electronic component operable in an electronic circuit. The surface mount device can also include a heat transfer component thermally coupled to the electronic component. The heat transfer component can have a heat transfer surface configured to interface with a heat sink. In addition, the surface mount device can include a resiliently flexible lead to electrically couple the electronic component to a circuit board. The resiliently flexible lead can be configured to resiliently deflect to facilitate a variable distance of the heat transfer surface from the circuit board, to enable the heat transfer surface and a planar heat transfer surface of another similarly configured surface mount device to be substantially aligned for interfacing with the heat sink.

Method to align surface mount packages for thermal enhancement

A radio frequency (RF) module having a plurality of channels includes a heat sink having at least one tapered edge; a substrate disposed over a surface of the heat sink such that the tapered edge of the heat sink extends past a boundary of the substrate. RF, logic and power circuitry is disposed on the substrate and one or more RF signal ports are formed on an edge of the substrate to allow the RF module to be used in an array antenna having a brick architecture. The tapered edge heat sink provides both a ground plane for RF signal components and a thermal path for heat generating circuits disposed in the substrate.

The present invention relates to flex cables, and more particularly to a temperature tolerant cover layer construction for a flex cable. In one embodiment, a flex cable designed to be bent to a particular curved shape includes one or more slits formed in the inner cover layer, to reduce the amount of material in the cover layer on the inside radius of the curve. By reducing the amount of cover layer material on the inside of the curve, the slits reduce the compressive stress in the cover layer. The slits are formed prior to laminating the flex cable so that upon lamination the flexible filler material below the cover layer fills the slits, providing a compliant, protective layer that bends into the desired curve and protects the active components inside the cable. The slits reduce the compressive stress along the inside cover layer and thereby prevent the cover layer from separating from the rest of the cable when the flex cable is subjected to high temperature conditions.

Temperature tolerant cover layer construction

A lid includes a frame, a window which is transmissive to radiation and has a peripheral edge sealingly coupled to the frame, and thermal insulating structure which thermally insulates the peripheral edge of the window. In one embodiment, the thermal insulating structure includes a ring which is made of a thermal insulating material, and extends around the window. In a different embodiment, the thermal insulating structure includes an annular gap between the window and frame, the gap extending around the window. The lid may be part of a housing with a sealed chamber therein, where the window facilitates travel of radiation between the chamber and a location external to the housing.
