A method and a system having a sensor for detecting legs of a person in a monitored zone having protected fields and for releasing a function of a vehicle, having a control and evaluation unit for evaluating the protected fields, wherein the sensor is configured to generate at least two protected fields, wherein a first protected field detects at least a part of a first leg of the person, wherein a second protected field detects at least a part of a second leg of the person, the control and evaluation unit is configured to determine whether at least a part of a first leg of the person was detected in the first protected field and at least a part of a second leg of the person was detected in the second protected field, and to transmit at least a release signal to the vehicle and thus to release the function when at least a part of a first leg of the person was detected in the first protected field and at least a part of a second leg of the person was detected in the second protected field, wherein the sensor is a time of flight sensor wherein at least one light transmitter transmits a light signal and at least one light receiver receives a signal reflected or remitted by the person, and the control and evaluation unit is configured to evaluate the received signal on the basis of the time of flight and to form object determination signals.

Safety system and method using a safety system

A method using a safety system and a safety system for localizing at least one object, with varying locations, are provided. A radio location system has at least three arranged radio stations and at least one radio transponder is arranged at the object. Position data of the radio transponder and the object can be determined by means of the radio location system. The position data can be transmitted from a radio station of the radio location system to a control and evaluation unit which is configured to cyclically detect the position data of the radio transponder. A first inspection unit is connected to the control and evaluation unit, and the control and evaluation unit is checked by the first inspection unit.

A method for detecting an object inside a monitored zone includes monitoring at least a part of a monitored zone. Sensors generate respective single digital images of the total monitored zone, with the single images of all sensors being generated in a uniform coordinate system. Coordinate points of the single images are flagged as 'safe' by each sensor if they are free of the object, with all other coordinate points being flagged as 'unsafe'. The single images are each transmitted to an evaluation unit and are superimposed to form a resulting total image. The coordinate points of the total image, which are flagged as &#x201c;safe&#x201d;, correspond to those flagged as safe in at least one of the single images. All other coordinate points of the total image are flagged as unsafe. The coordinate points flagged as unsafe in the total image are used for the determination of the object coordinates.

Method and apparatus for detecting an object through the use of multiple sensors

An apparatus for the control of at least one safety-relevant function of a machine is described having a machine control for the control of the movements of the machine, having at least one sensor for the sensing of an object inside a monitored zone and having an evaluation unit for the setting of a danger zone and for the triggering of the safety-relevant function on the intrusion of the sensed object into the danger zone. To set the danger zone, the evaluation unit is coupled to the machine control and the evaluation unit is designed for the derivation of the parameters required for the setting of the danger zone starting from the control signals used by the machine control for the movement control of the machine. A corresponding method is furthermore described.
