An air-intake device having a variable induction-pipe length for an internal combustion engine includes a cylindrical collector. Induction pipes extend from inlets on the collector along a periphery of the collector up to inlet ducts of an internal combustion engine. A switching device in the shape of a cylinder sector is pivotably mounted in the collector. In a first rotary position, the switching device closes lead-in ports which connect the induction pipes to the collector. Therefore, the switching device has elevations on its lateral surface. The elevations have a front surface and adjoining side walls together forming a first contact surface in a closing direction, and an end region opposite the front surface forming a second contact surface. The first and second contact surfaces have a seal and bear against first and second bearing surfaces of the lead-in ports in the first rotary position, for tightly closing the lead-in ports.

Air-intake device having variable induction-pipe length for an internal

A variable air intake device for an internal combustion engine includes a first manifold, air intake pipes for connecting the first manifold to individual cylinders of the internal combustion engine to supply intake air, and a second manifold connected to the air intake pipes. The second manifold has a portion between the first manifold and the cylinders. The portion has further mutually closely adjacent air intake pipes. The further air intake pipes have walls with mutually adjacent ports and the further air intake pipes have bearing collars. A closing device has shafts and closing elements in the form of elongate bodies in the vicinity of the bearing collars. Each of the elongate bodies is rotatably mounted as a flap on a respective one of the shafts for closing and opening the ports as a function of a parameter of the internal combustion engine.

Variable air intake device

An air intake device with individual suction pipes having a variable effective length includes entry ports which are provided between a region of each of the suction pipes and a manifold. The entry ports can be closed by a closing device. The closing device is disposed outside a range of influence of the intake air flowing through the suction pipes, so that as a result no force which could move the closing device out of place is exerted on the latter. Air guide elements and air guide walls are provided in order to prevent the intake air from breaking away. The air intake device can be used in the intake pipe of an internal combustion engine.
