An alternate clock apparatus and method configured to reduce noise in selected frequency bands in an electronic device such as a communication device is described. In one embodiment the alternate clock includes a ring oscillator to generate multiple time shifted signals which may then be combined to generate clock signals at alternate frequencies to a primary reference. A resynchronization circuit may be coupled to the ring oscillator to periodically resynchronize the ring oscillator to a reference signal to reduce alternate clock jitter.

Alternate clock apparatus and methods for improving radio performance

A system and method for providing, among other things, wideband phase modulation is described. Several embodiments include a scaling network for scaling an input modulation signal in accordance with a scaling parameter and thereby generating a scaled modulation signal that is applied to a voltage-controlled oscillator of a phase-locked loop. A sensing network may also be included for detecting changes in one or more parameters characterizing the voltage-controlled oscillator. A calibration adjustment network may additionally be included for adjusting the scaling parameter in accordance with the changes in the one or more parameters.

Systems and methods for frequency modulation adjustment

System for linear amplitude modulation. Apparatus is provided for linear amplitude modulation of an amplifier. The apparatus includes a processing circuit that receives an amplitude modulation signal and produces one or more amplifier control signals that are coupled to the amplifier. The apparatus also includes a feedback circuit that generates a feedback signal from an output of the amplifier that is input to the processing circuit; and a network that controls a bias of the amplifier in response to the feedback signal to linearize the amplifier's amplitude control.

System for linear amplitude modulation

Phase locked loop calibration system. Apparatus is provided for calibration of a phase-locked loop. The apparatus includes logic to calibrate an integration filter of the phase-locked loop, and logic to calibrate a charge pump current of the phase-locked loop, wherein the integration filter and charge pump current are calibrated to achieve a desired phase-locked loop performance level.

Phase-locked loop calibration system

A direct synthesis transmitter. A very efficient and highly linear direct synthesis transmitter is provided that can be used to directly synthesize and transmit any type of modulated signal. The direct synthesis transmitter includes a phase-locked loop (PLL) with controls phase modulation plus an accompanying variable gain amplifier for amplitude modulation. Also included is a system to align the phase and amplitude modulation signals. A transmitter constructed in accordance with the present invention is very efficient and suitable for use in portable radio equipment.
