Systems and method are provided for controlling a smart home device. In one embodiment, a method, performed by a server, for controlling the smart home device including detecting a smart home device in response to an internet protocol address of a data packet transmitted on a network, determining a function of the smart home device, receiving an event alert from an external data source, associating the function of the smart home device with the event alert, and transmitting a control signal to initiate the function of the smart home device in response to the association of the function with the event alert.

A process may include detecting an incident within a building, determining a first radius of a user device from a node by wirelessly coupling the user device and the node, determining the first radius based on a signal property of the coupling; determining a second radius of the user device from a second node by wireless coupling the user device and the second node and based on a signal property of the second coupling; determining a third radius of the user device from a third node by wireless coupling the user device and the third node, and based on a third signal property of the coupling; and first calculating, based on the first radius, the second radius, and the third radius, a current location of the first user device within the building. The first node may be a node for a Wi-Fi mesh system.

The present disclosure is directed to methods and systems for searching for media content across multiple sources. A multi-source content system can connect various media content sources (e.g., internet streaming platforms, local or cloud storage, OTA networks, cable network, satellite network, public library databases, etc.) to a gateway. When a user searches for media content, the gateway can detect the search and perform a query across the various media content sources to locate the media content. The multi-source content system can prioritize the search results according to free content, local storage devices, gateway content services or bandwidth management metrics, and present the search results to the user. The multi-source content system can aggregate multiple media content sources and devices connected to a gateway to retrieve media content.

A method for casting to multiple wireless speakers, the method including: receiving at a casting device a request from a user device to cast audio signals to multiple wireless speakers, wherein the audio signals include multiple channels; sending an inquiry request; receiving responses to the inquiry request from multiple wireless speakers; connecting to a plurality of speakers from the multiple wireless speakers; sending test signals to each of the plurality of speakers; receiving information from a microphone for each of the one or more test signals output from each of the plurality of speakers, wherein the microphone is a component of a remote control associated with the casting device; selecting one or more of the multiple channels to send to each of the plurality of speakers based on the received information; and sending the corresponding selected one or more of the multiple channels to each of the plurality of speakers.

A process for detecting motion within an environment includes receiving, at a monitor, first coupling data for a coupling of a first node with a second node. The first node is coupled to the second node which is further coupled to the monitor and thereby form a mesh network. The operations may include: at the monitor, receiving first node identifying data, selecting a first median for a first signal property for a first wireless coupling, monitoring the first signal property, determining, upon detecting a change in the first signal property, whether the first signal property exceeds the first median, determining, when the first signal property exceeds the first median, if the change in the first signal property exceeds a first threshold, initiating a first action when the first threshold is exceeded, and determining whether to resume monitoring of the first signal property when the first threshold is not exceeded.

A method of obtaining status information is disclosed. The method includes transmitting, by a router device, first status information to a network device; determining, by the router device, that the router device is not connected to the network device; causing, by the router device, a light emitting device to output light in an illumination pattern in response to the determining that the router device is not connected to the network device; generating, by a user device, image data corresponding to a plurality of images of the light emitting device while the light emitting device outputs light in the illumination pattern; obtaining, by the user device, second status information based on the image data corresponding to the plurality of images of the light emitting device while the light emitting device outputs light in the illumination pattern; and transmitting, by the user device, the second status information to the network device.

Alternatives to router status lights

The present disclosure is directed to methods and systems for adjusting network speed to a gateway. The network speed adjustment system can include a gateway with the ability to manage a consumer-initiated temporary increase in network speed or network bandwidth. The network speed adjustment system can determine whether the provisioning system can support a network speed increase to the gateway. The provisioning system can measure the capacity of the network at the gateway location and determine whether the system can support providing the gateway with an increased network speed or increased bandwidth. When additional bandwidth capacity or network speed is available for a gateway location, a user can request the network increase by submitting a token via the gateway. The gateway can communicate with the provisioning system to increase the network speed according to the characteristics of the token.

Systems, devices and methods are described for facilitating gateway prioritization. A system includes a gateway, a first node, and a second node coupled by an internal link. The gateway instantiates an allocator which allocates a link characteristic of the internal link based on a first resource request by the first node and in view of a second resource request by the second node. The requests identify a link characteristic for the internal link. The allocator allocates the link characteristic between the first node and the second node based on a ranking of the first node and the second node. The first link characteristic may be an internal link bandwidth. An ISP server is coupled by an external link to the gateway. The external link includes an external link characteristic which the first resource request identifies and the allocator allocates in view thereof.

Techniques are provided that include receiving, by a set-top box (STB) and over a direct broadcast satellite (DBS) channel, an instructional media file; storing the instructional media file in a local database for future viewing; adding metadata about the instructional media file to an analytics engine; determining, by the analytics engine, a time to present the instructional media file to an end-user associated with the STB, wherein the determination is based on processing an associated profile of the end-user and the metadata about the instructional media file; transmitting a notification for delivery to the end-user, where the notification indicates that the instructional media file is ready to be presented; and presenting, by a local processor associated with the STB, the instructional media file. Various artificial intelligence and augmented reality aspects are created and implemented in the system.

A method includes monitoring, by a gateway device comprising a processor, connected devices that are connected to the gateway device, wherein each connected device comprises a transceiver configured to communicate with the gateway device; determining, by the gateway device, whether a first connected device of the connected devices increases an audio level in a target location greater than a predefined threshold; and in response to the gateway device determining that the first connected device audio level at the target location is greater than the predefined threshold, the gateway device reduces audio of the first connected device.

Home audio monitoring for proactive volume adjustments

Various embodiments of apparatus, systems (e.g., a gateway device) and/or methods are described for providing an anti-distraction mode to control a plurality of connected devices in an establishment. In the gateway device, a list of connected devices that are connected to the gateway device is determined by the gateway device in response to anti-distraction mode being activated in the gateway device. Each connected device comprises a transceiver configured to communicate with the gateway device. A policy is stored at the gateway device for all of the connected devices when a triggering condition occurs, and activation of anti-distraction mode is received in the gateway device. In response to the anti-distraction mode being activated in the gateway device and in response to the gateway device detecting that the triggering condition occurs, the gateway device reduces features or outputs of at least one of the connected devices.

Systems, devices and processes are described herein to improve the reliable delivery of content in a satellite system by facilitating the prediction of likely future signal interference. Specifically, the various embodiments provide a technique whereby a likelihood of future plant growth interfering with received signal strength at a satellite dish is determined. In one embodiment, the technique analyses one or more images of a plant in the vicinity of the satellite dish and from that image generates prediction of future growth of the plant over a future time period. From this prediction of future plant growth, a likelihood of future signal interference being caused by the plant can be determined.
