The present invention relates to a hose construction containing a thermoplastic barrier and a fluoroelastomer rubber layer. The hose comprises () a rubber layer comprising FKM rubber; and () a barrier layer comprised of a thermoplastic quadpolymer derived from (i) tetrafluoroethylene, (ii) vinylidene fluoride, (iii) at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer of the formula CF&#x2550;CFRwhere Ris a perfluoroalkyl or a perfluoroalkoxy of 1 to 8 carbon atoms, and (iv) a perfluorovinyl ether of the formula CF&#x2550;CF&#x2014;(OCFCF(R))OR'where Ris as described in (iii), R&#x2032;is a perfluoroaliphatic, preferably a perfluoroalkyl or a perfluoroalkoxy, of 1 to 8, preferably 1 to 3, carbon atoms, and a has a value of 0 to 3; wherein the barrier layer is adhered to the rubber layer with an adhesive amount of a thermoplastic terpolymer derived from tetrafluoroethylene, hexafluoropropylene and vinylidene fluoride.

Hose construction containing thermoplastic quadpolymers

A method of forming a curved hose and a mandrel for forming a curved hose is disclosed. A hose length is inserted onto a multi-legged mandrel to form a curved hose. The mandrel has at least two legs and the opposing ends of the hose are placed on the mandrel legs such that a portion of the hose is unsupported by an internal mandrel. The unsupported portion of the hose may be straight or may be looped to form a more complexly curved hose. The unsupported portion of the hose may also be held in position by an external mandrel.

Mandrel for forming a curved hose

The present invention is directed to a flexible hose for transporting hydrogen and oxygen gases for use in a fuel cell vehicle. The hose has a low permeation rate and will not contaminate the fuel cell system due to interactions between the hose and the transported gases. The hose has a multi-layer inner tube, a reinforcing layer, and a cover layer wherein the multi-layer inner tube is characterized by the innermost layer being formed from a liquid crystal polymer. A second low permeability layer may be present radially outward of the liquid crystal polymer.

Fuel cell hose with barrier properties

The present invention relates to a hose construction containing a fluoroplastic barrier and a hydrogenated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber layer. The hose comprises (1) a rubber layer comprising (a) hydrogenated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber; (b) from 2 to 15 phr of an organophosphonium salt; (c) from 5 to 30 phr of trioctyl trimellitate; and (d) from 5 to 30 phr of a dialkyl diether glutarate; (2) a barrier layer comprised of a terpolymer derived from tetrafluoroethylene, hexafluoropropylene and vinylidene fluoride, wherein the barrier layer is directly adhered to the rubber layer.
