A lighting unit adapted to be mounted to a vertical member, preferably a pole for use at a checkout counter in a retail service location. The lighting unit includes a substantially polygonal housing secured to the pole. The housing typically includes at least three sides, a top, and a base; the top may have slots to promote ventilation. An opening is formed in the first side of the housing and defines a receiving location for the pole, situated between the top and base of the housing. A clamp plate is releasably engageable with the first side of the housing spans the opening adjacent to the pole, and releasably engages the pole to provide for easy vertical adjustment of the housing relative to the pole. Each flange can advantageously include at least one set of teeth for enhancing the gripping strength of the clamp plates and penetrating the vertical member.

A pole for supplying power and communications including an elongated body that slidably receives an adjustment member. The pole body has an inner compartment receiving power and communications wiring therein and a barrier member defining first and second channels within the inner compartment. The adjustment member is received in the inner compartment of the elongated body, and defines a longitudinal axis substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the elongated body. Also, the adjustment member has a first securing interface corresponding to a securing element of pole body when the adjustment member is in a first position with respect to the elongated body.

Adjustable power pole

A self-adjusting end cap for capping an object having an opening. The end cap includes a base that has an inner and an outer surface, at least one post connected to the base inner surface, and at least one rib extending outwardly from the post. The rib is adapted to fit in a channel in an opening of an object to be capped. When the end cap and object are aligned for connection, the rib extends beyond an inner wall of the channel. A portion of the rib is sheared off by the inner wall of the channel upon insertion of the post and rib in the channel, thereby positioning the end cap within the object. The posts in combination with the ribs create a precise and tight friction fit between the end cap and the object. Preferably, the end cap has two posts, each with a rib extending outwardly therefrom, and the object has two channels, each having an inner wall. The outer edges of the ribs are separated by a first distance, and the channels are separated by a second distance. The first distance is preferably greater than the second distance. Then, upon insertion of the end cap into the object, the extra width on the ribs is sheared off by the inner walls of the channels, thereby positioning the end cap within the object.

Self-adjustable end cap assembly

A vernier ratchet-type lens adjuster for use with a lens array allows for fine adjustment of the coverage pattern of a sensor. The lens array can have notches, or teeth, that interact with a single tooth, or pawl, of a lens adjuster unit to maintain the position of the lens array. A user can make fine adjustments to the coverage pattern of the sensor by moving the lens array small increments. Alternatively, a rack and pinion type vernier adjuster can be used. One edge of the lens array has notches, forming the teeth of a rack portion. A pinion, or gear, has compatible teeth for mating with the rack portion. The pinion has a knob or screw accessible from a port in the sensor housing. When assembled, the rack, pinion and lens array are mated. A user can adjust the coverage pattern of the lens array by rotating the pinion, which in turn moves the rack, or the lens array, along a predetermined path.

Apparatus and method for lens adjustment

A multiport assembly has an electrical circuit board that floats within an enclosure assembly, thereby reducing the tolerance variation and providing a multiport assembly that is easy to assemble. The enclosure assembly has a first housing cover that has a first plurality of recesses and a second housing cover that has a second plurality of recesses. The second housing cover mates with the first housing cover, thereby creating the enclosure assembly. A plurality of openings are formed in the enclosure assembly by the alignment of the first plurality of recesses with the second plurality of recesses when the first and second housing covers are mated. Brass shells are connected to the electrical circuit board that is disposed within the enclosure assembly. Each shell extends through one of the plurality of openings in the enclosure assembly for supporting the electrical circuit board in a position spaced from the enclosure assembly so that the electrical circuit board floats within the enclosure assembly.

A multifunction adapter for use in a motion sensor module holds a lens at the front of the adapter in a predetermined position and distance relative to a sensor mounted on a circuit board, and uses positioning projections at the rear of the adapter to set a predetermined distance of the adapter from the sensor and the circuit board. The adapter can be adjusted to set the focal point of the lens at an optimized position for the sensor. Additionally, a cover that shrouds the sensor is present on the rear side of the adapter for reducing or eliminating air flowing across and around the sensor. When the sensor is a passive infrared device, the reduction in air flowing around and across the sensor reduces the number of false signals.

A housing for an electrical device including opposed supports or ribs receiving thereon a circuit board having first and second sides separated by a width &ldquo;a&rdquo;. A first board support is attached to the housing and has a first side surface, a first support surface substantially perpendicular to the first side surface for supporting the circuit board, and a first recess in the first support surface. A second board support is attached to an opposing side surface of the housing. The side surfaces of the board supports are separated by a distance &ldquo;b&rdquo;. When distance &ldquo;a&rdquo; is greater than distance &ldquo;b&rdquo;, the circuit board is retained in an interference fit. Scrapings that are formed during the insertion of the circuit board into the housing can be collected in the support recesses, which provide relief areas, to avoid interfering with the proper seating of the circuit board on the board supports.

An electrical receptacle includes a receptacle body, test and reset switches and a pair of projections. The body has electrical elements disposed therein for making electrical contact with an electrical plug of various diameter sizes. The body has a face with a set of apertures for receiving prongs of the electrical plug for mating of the plug with the receptacle. The switches are mounted to the face of the body adjacent to the set of apertures and are actuatable to affect operation of the electrical elements. The projections are made of a substantially rigid material and mounted to the face of the body adjacent to the test switch and the set of apertures and protrude from the body. The projections extend outwardly from the face of the body adjacent to the test switch such that upon mating with the receptacle a plug having an oversized diameter will engage the projections and thereby be prevented from making contact with the test switch sufficient to cause tripping thereof and thereby avoid inadvertent actuation of the test switch. The height of the projections is at least as great as the height of the test switch. The projections are located adjacent to opposite ends of the test switch.

A housing for an electrical wiring device includes an adjustable clamping mechanism for retaining electrical conduits therein. The clamping mechanism has a pair of opposing strain relief members on opposite sides of a conduit passageway, set to accept a predetermined conduit width. Each strain relief member has a frangible portion which can be removed by a user. In this manner, if a user desires to retain, by means of an interference fit, a conduit having a diameter larger than the predetermined spacing of the intact strain relief members will allow, one or both frangible portions can be removed to accommodate a larger sized conduit. Alternatively, more than one pair of strain relief members having frangible portions can be alternately arranged to clamp a conduit in an S-shaped configuration, capable of accepting multiple conduit sizes by removing some or all of the frangible portions. Preferably, the strain relief members are integrally formed with the housing, and each frangible portion is integrally formed with the remainder of the strain relief member and the housing.

An electrical receptacle assembly includes a housing and a mounting bridge. The housing includes front and back covers adapted to mate together. The front cover has opposite forward and rearward sides and opposite top and bottom ends, and the back cover has opposite forward and rearward sides and top and bottom ends. The forward side of the front cover is a wall covering the same whereas the rearward side of the front cover is open. The forward side of the back cover is open whereas the rearward side of the back cover is a wall covering the same. The open forward side of the back cover is adapted to interfit with the open rearward side of front cover to provide them in a mated relationship with one another. The mounting bridge includes a body portion annular in shape having upper and lower ends and being adapted to fit over the front cover of the housing from the forward side and rearwardly to a position located intermediately between the forward and rearward sides of the front cover at which the annular body portion surrounds the front cover. The mounting bridge also includes a pair of upper and lower flange portions attached to and extending rearwardly from respective upper and lower ends of the body portion. The assembly also includes securement elements defined on the upper and lower flange portions of the mounting bridge and top and bottom ends of the front and back covers of the housing for releasably securing the upper and lower flange portions of the mounting bridge respectively to the top and bottom ends of the front and back covers of the housing with the front and back covers in the mated relationship with one another.
