A compressor assembly includes a compressor housing having an inlet port configured to receive intake air and an outlet port configured to discharge pressurized air. A hollow section having an inner radial surface defines the inlet port of the compressor housing. A compressor wheel is disposed in the hollow section. A positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) passage is configured to allow airflow between a crankcase of an engine and the hollow section of the compressor housing. The PCV passage has an outlet opening that opens into the hollow section of the compressor housing and the inner radial surface includes an integrally formed raised boss surrounding the outlet opening and protruding into the hollow section.

A compressor assembly may include a compressor housing and a compressor impeller disposed within the compressor housing. The compressor housing may have an internal aerodynamic surface that defines a circumferentially extending volute, and the compressor impeller may have an external aerodynamic surface that faces toward at least a portion of the internal aerodynamic surface of the compressor housing. A nonstick coating may be formed on the internal aerodynamic surface of the compressor housing or on the external aerodynamic surface of the compressor impeller. The nonstick coating may prevent foreign material introduced into the compressor assembly from collecting on the internal aerodynamic surface of the compressor housing or on the external aerodynamic surface of the compressor impeller.

A compressor assembly includes a compressor housing and a positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube. The compressor housing has an inlet port configured to receive intake air at ambient pressure, an outlet port configured to discharge pressurized air, and a hollow cylindrical section having an inner radial surface and an outer radial surface. The inner radial surface of the hollow cylindrical section defines the inlet port of the compressor housing. The PCV tube is configured to allow airflow between a crankcase of an engine and the inlet port of the compressor housing. The PCV tube extends through the hollow cylindrical section of the compressor housing and beyond the inner radial surface of the hollow cylindrical section.

A rotor for a positive displacement compressor assembly having a housing defining an inlet, an outlet, and a rotor cavity in communication with the inlet and the outlet. The rotor may comprise a rotor body and a porous inner core enclosed within the rotor body. The rotor may comprise a tapered rotor body having an outer radius that decreases from a first end to a second end thereof. In one form, the positive displacement compressor assembly may comprise a supercharger assembly for an internal combustion engine.

A turbocharger having a turbo vane, an air compressor, and a hollow shaft integrally formed with one of the turbo vane and the air compressor. The turbo vane has a plurality of turbo blades extending from a hollow, central turbo hub. The air compressor has a plurality of compressor blades extending from a hollow, central compressor hub. The hollow shaft is in fluid communication with the air compressor so as to communicate cool air from the air compressor to the turbo vane.

The present disclosure provides a turbocharger which reduces noise generated from the wastegate. The turbocharger includes a turbocharger housing, a rotary assembly, and a wastegate door. The turbocharger housing defines a wastegate opening, a resonator proximate to the wastegate opening, a compressor inlet, a compressor outlet, a turbine inlet, and a turbine outlet. The rotary assembly includes a turbine and a compressor attached to one another by a shaft wherein the rotary assembly is disposed in the turbocharger housing. The wastegate door may be moveably affixed to the turbocharger housing.

A turbocharger for an internal combustion engine includes a rotating assembly having a turbine wheel disposed inside a turbine housing and a compressor wheel disposed inside a compressor cover. The turbine housing defines a turbine outlet cavity, a turbine housing inlet, and a turbine housing outlet. The turbine housing inlet is configured to channel engine post-combustion gases to the turbine wheel and the turbine housing outlet is configured to exhaust the gases aft of the turbine wheel. A diffuser arranged inside the turbine outlet cavity is configured to channel the post-combustion gases aft of the turbine wheel and out to the turbine housing outlet, without discharging into the turbine outlet cavity.

An induction system for an internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder includes a centrifugal compressor configured to pressurize an airflow being received from the ambient. The induction system also includes an intake manifold configured to channel the pressurized airflow to the at least one cylinder. The centrifugal compressor is disposed within and integral to the intake manifold. An internal combustion engine employing such an induction system is also disclosed.

A turbocharger assembly includes a compressor assembly, a turbine wheel, a shaft, a bearing assembly, and a cooling gas conduit. The compressor assembly includes a compressor impeller. The compressor impeller includes an outermost impeller edge and has a maximum cross-sectional dimension at the outermost impeller edge. The shaft interconnects the compressor impeller and the turbine wheel. The bearing assembly surrounds at least a portion of the shaft. The cooling gas conduit is disposed in fluid communication with the compressor assembly and the bearing assembly. At least a portion of the cooling gas conduit is disposed adjacent the outermost impeller edge such that the cooling gas conduit is configured to receive a portion of intake gases flowing along the outermost impeller edge and guide the portion of the intake gases toward the bearing assembly to cool the bearing assembly.

A turbocharger for an internal combustion engine includes a shaft, a first turbine wheel, a compressor wheel, and a second turbine wheel. The shaft includes a first end and a second end and is supported for rotation about an axis. The first turbine wheel is mounted on the shaft proximate to the first end and configured to be rotated about the axis by post-combustion gasses emitted by the engine. The compressor wheel is mounted on the shaft between the first and second ends and configured to pressurize an airflow being received from the ambient for delivery to the engine. The second turbine wheel is mounted on the shaft proximate to the second end and configured to be rotated about the axis by a pressurized fluid. An internal combustion engine employing such a turbocharger is also disclosed.

A turbocharger compressor includes a compressor housing having a housing wall that includes a shroud that defines a central air channel and a compressor inlet in fluid communication with the central channel and an inlet duct. It also includes a compressor wheel configured to draw air into the compressor inlet from the inlet duct and create a main airflow in the central air channel axially toward a compressor outlet. The compressor also includes a bypass channel that extends between an opening in the main channel located between the compressor inlet and compressor outlet proximate the compressor blades and the compressor inlet. The compressor also includes a deflector that includes a deflector surface that is configured to direct a bypass airflow in the bypass channel, and flowing in a direction from the main channel toward the compressor inlet, into the compressor inlet axially and radially inwardly toward the compressor wheel.

A centrifugal compressor wheel for a turbocharger is disclosed. The wheel includes an axially extending hub having an inlet end, an outlet end, an arcuate outer surface and a shaft bore. The wheel also includes a blade array disposed on the outer surface of the hub, the blade array comprising a plurality of circumferentially-spaced, radially and axially extending, arcuate centrifugal impeller blades disposed thereon; the hub and the blade array comprising a non-woven, discontinuous-fiber-filled, polymer matrix composite material.
