A variable displacement lubricant pump for providing a pressurized lubricant for a motor vehicle. The pump includes a pump rotor which rotates about a rotor axis and a control ring which is shiftable. The pump rotor includes a pump rotor shaft, a rotor body having vane slits, and pump vanes which are arranged in and which axially slide in the vane slits. The control ring can be actuated to set an eccentricity of the control ring to define a volumetric pump performance. The control ring defines a pump chamber which is separated by the pump vanes into pumping compartments. The control ring includes a control ring main body, bushing rings which are arranged separately at a radial inside of the control ring main body, and a radial inlet opening and/or a radial outlet opening. The radial inlet opening and/or the radial outlet opening is/are arranged axially between the bushing rings.

A variable mechanical lubricant pump provides a pressurized lubricant for an internal combustion engine. The lubricant pump includes a delivery port which is fluidically connected to the engine, a control ring which shifts between a maximum and a minimum eccentricity position, a pump rotor having slidable vanes which rotate in the control ring, a control ring preload spring which pushes the control ring into the maximum eccentricity position, a hydraulic control chamber which pushes the control ring into the minimum eccentricity position, a pressure galley pump port fluidically connected to the engine, and an overpressure valve fluidically associated with the delivery port. The pressure gallery pump port charges the hydraulic control chamber with a gallery pressure to control a remote gallery pressure of the engine via a control chamber pressure in the hydraulic control chamber. The overpressure valve opens if an applied lubricant pressure exceeds a predefined maximum pressure limit.

Automotive variable mechanical lubricant pump

A variable displacement lubricant pump includes a housing, a control ring arranged in the housing, an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber, and a lateral slide bearing. The control ring is shiftable, radially confines a pumping chamber, and comprises a drainage channel. The outlet chamber and the inlet chamber are arranged at opposite lateral sides of the control ring. The lateral slide bearing is arranged at the lateral side of the control ring where the outlet chamber is arranged and comprises a first lateral slide bearing surface defined by the static housing, a second lateral slide bearing surface arranged opposite to the first lateral slide bearing surface which is defined by the control ring, and a lateral slide bearing gap defined between the first and second lateral slide bearing surfaces. The drainage channel of the control ring fluidically connects the lateral slide bearing gap with the inlet chamber.

A variable lubricant vane pump includes a pump housing, a shiftable control ring, a rotatable pump rotor, a control ring preload spring which preloads and pushes the control ring into a high eccentricity direction, a hydraulic safety control chamber which moves the control ring against the control ring preload spring and which is directly and constantly pressurized with a pressurized lubricant having a pump outlet pressure, a separate hydraulic adjustment control chamber which moves the control ring against the control ring preload spring and which is selectively pressurized with the pressurized lubricant having an over-atmospheric pressure, an electric adjustment valve which selectively directs the pressurized lubricant having the over-atmospheric pressure to the separate hydraulic adjustment control chamber, and a calibrated hydraulic channel which directly connects the separate hydraulic adjustment control chamber with atmospheric pressure. An effective hydraulic cross-sectional area of the calibrated hydraulic channel is less than 5.0 mm.

Variable displacement lubricant vane pump

A mechanical lubricant pump includes a control ring which shifts between a maximum and a minimum eccentricity position, the control ring having a circumference with anti-spring and pro-spring hydraulic surfaces, a pump rotor having slidable vanes which rotate in the control ring, a preload spring which pushes the control ring into the maximum eccentricity position, a hydraulic pilot chamber which pushes the control ring into the minimum eccentricity position, a hydraulic pressure control circuit which controls a gallery pressure by regulating a pilot chamber pressure, and a hydraulic outlet chamber which surrounds a part of the circumference. The hydraulic pilot chamber is charged with a pump outlet pressure or with the gallery pressure of an engine. The hydraulic outlet chamber is charged with the pump outlet pressure and is connected to the pump outlet for a pressurized lubricant. The anti-spring hydraulic surface is larger than the counter-acting pro-spring hydraulic surface.

A lubricant pump for pumping a pressurized lubricant to an engine includes a shiftable control ring, a pump rotor, a pump outlet port, a pressure control system and a preload control arrangement. The pressure control system comprises a first pressure control chamber, a first pressure conduit connecting the pump outlet port with the first pressure control chamber, and a pressure control valve. The pressure control valve comprises an outlet port, a control valve cylinder wall comprising a control port connected with the outlet port, a control plunger which opens and closes the control port, an input pressure plunger connected with the control plunger, and a control spring preloading the control plunger into a closed position. The preload control arrangement comprises a preload cylinder, a preload plunger in the preload cylinder supporting a basis of the control spring, a preload cylinder inlet, and a preload control valve controlling a lubricant pressure.

Variable displacement lubricant pump with a pressure control valve having a preload control arrangement

A variable displacement lubricant pump providing a pressurized lubricant for an engine includes a control ring. A pump housing comprises a pump rotor with radially slidable vanes which rotate in the control ring. A pressure control chamber pushes the control ring into a low pumping volume direction against a force of a flexible pretensioning element. The pressure control chamber is connected with a pump outlet port via a first pressure conduit. A pretension control unit adjusts discharge pressures of the pressurized lubricant. The pretension control unit comprises a pretension cylinder with a plunger and an outlet opening arranged in a cylinder wall. The plunger is axially moveable and supports the flexible pretensioning element to push the control ring into a high pumping volume direction. The pretension cylinder is connected with the pump outlet port via a second pressure conduit. The outlet opening is connectable to a low-pressure via an electrical pretension control valve.

A variable displacement lubricant pump includes a first plunger which pushes a shiftable control ring into a high pumping volume direction. A pump rotor comprises radially slidable vanes which rotate in the control ring. A pressure control system comprises a first pressure control chamber wherein a first plunger is axially moveable. A first pressure conduit connects a pump outlet port with the first pressure control chamber. A first pressure control valve controls a pressure in the first pressure control chamber. A second pressure control valve between an outlet opening in a side wall of the first pressure control chamber and a low pressure source controls the outlet opening and is a centrifugal valve mechanically connected with the pump rotor which closes at a high rotational speed of the pump rotor. The outlet opening is closed by the first plunger in a low pumping volume position and opened in a high pumping volume position.
