A method for mitigating turbulence in an image. A set of initial turbulence parameters is chosen. A fast de-turbulence algorithm is applied using each initial turbulence parameter to an original image, resulting in an enhanced image. The sharpness of each enhanced image is measured. The sharpness is recorded along with the corresponding initial turbulence parameter in a sharpness curve. The knee of the sharpness curve is calculated. An estimated turbulence parameter ris determined according to the knee. A de-turbulence algorithm is applied to the original image using r.

Method for estimating turbulence using turbulence parameter as a focus parameter

A system for providing an improved resolution retina image comprising an imaging camera for capturing a retina image and a computer system operatively connected to the imaging camera, the computer producing short exposures of the retina image and providing speckle processing of the short exposures to provide the improved resolution retina image. The system comprises the steps of capturing a retina image, producing short exposures of the retina image, and speckle processing the short exposures of the retina image to provide the improved resolution retina image.

High-resolution ophthalmic imaging system

A surveillance system looks through the atmosphere along a horizontal or slant path. Turbulence along the path causes blurring. The blurring is corrected by speckle processing short exposure images recorded with a camera. The exposures are short enough to effectively freeze the atmospheric turbulence. Speckle processing is used to recover a better quality image of the scene.
