A sparkling viewing effect is created when a light material viewing effect attributable to a given LED is seen to move about a light effect material as an electronic assembly moves within a chamber when the given LED is emitting light.

A metalized layer can be used as a light source with a light effect material and a transparent space to create a reflected light material viewing effect in which a viewer perceives reflected light as a dispersed light effect viewing pattern rather than as a reflective light pattern viewing the same light path with the light effect material removed.

A metalized layer can be added between a light effect material and a viewer so that components creating a light material viewing effect are masked by the metalized layer when the light material viewing effect is not activated. The metalized layer, light effect material and or an article of manufacture incorporating them can be designed so that the light material viewing effect, when activated, enhances a visual design (such as artwork). The metalized layer can be incorporated into a self-contained module or be separately incorporated into an article of manufacture.

A lighting unit in which an electronic assembly is sealed within a watertight package. The electronic assembly has a PCB with a top side to which LEDs, an on/off switch and electronics are mounted and powered by a battery which may be mounted to the underneath side of the PCB. The watertight package is formed by sealing a first member to a second member, with the electronic assembly being sealed within it in a cavity and oriented so that its top side is more proximate the bottom housing than the underneath side, while a transparent space is created between the bottom housing and the LEDs, and the on/off switch can be actuated by pressure. The lighting unit can be used with a light effect material so as to create a light material viewing effect.

An RGB LED uses three leads instead of four. The three RGB semiconductor chips are all connected to a common lead where they are held. One of the three RGB semiconductor chips is connected, in conventional fashion, to a second lead. The other two of the three RGB semiconductor chips are alternately connected to a third lead and wired so that only one will work at a time, depending upon whether a positive or negative current is applied. A controller controls the direct and alternating current applied to the three RGB semiconductor chips to produce the desired combined color for the RGB LED.

A lighting unit is removably inserted into a pocket to create a light effect through use of a light effect material. The lighting unit has a PCB with a first side to which one or more LEDs and a battery are mounted. A clear potting material encloses the PCB, LEDs, and the battery and creates a transparent space proximate an inner surface of the light effect material which maintains the light effect material at a preselected distance from the LEDs so that light emitted from each light emitting die is dispersed by a plurality of dispersive elements in the light effect materials to create the light material viewing effect.

A light effect material is used to create a viewing effect visible to a viewer on the opposite side of the light effect material than one or more LEDs which emit light which is dispersed by dispersive elements on the outer surface of the light effect material. A transparent space is used to space the LEDs apart from the dispersive elements of the light effect material and light emitting dies of the LEDs are substantially parallel to the light effect material.

The present invention is generally directed to sequencing two or more LEDs on two or more wires; if more than two wires are used, any two pairs of wires can be used as a pair of wires. Each pair of wires can be used to sequence two or more LEDs, and a sequencer can control sequencing of LEDs on multiple wires connected in a group, or in multiple groups of multiple wires. For a given pair of wires, a first group of LEDs is wired opposite a second group of LEDs so that only one group will emit light at one time depending upon the flow of an alternating current. Two groups of LEDs can also be created by using two different semiconductor materials alternately wired to a single anode and cathode pair of a single LED physical package.

Multi-pin LEDs are secured to a ribbon assembly with substantially watertight mountings through use of glue while an LED embedded wire is created by electrically connecting together the axial leads of a plurality of axial LEDs with two conductive wires that are wound around the axial leads and then the resultant subassembly is protected and encased by two pieces of tape. Light effect material is spaced apart from LEDs to create a visually interesting light effect through use of microscopic sized structural components that disperse light and create a noticeable optical effect.

A solderless motion switch uses an electrically conductive spring having two outer sections (with a greater diameter than an intermediate section) which rest on a surface having electrical connectors (such as a circuit board) in a rest mode. In the rest mode the intermediate section is suspended over an electrical connector in a motion mode, the intermediate section moves into contact with the electrical connector to close an electric circuit with an electrical connection between one of the outer sections and another electrical connecter. The spring is placed into contact with the surface without use of solder or mounting and is held positioned in place, during both the rest and motion modes, by a barrier, the assembly of which can be completed after the spring is positioned on the surface.

An electronic circuit contains a circuit board with conducting tracks to which one or more electronic components with conducting contacts are positioned overlying portions of the conducting tracks and each such electronic component is held in place by a clamp that is in contact with the top surface of the electronic components so as to hold their conducting contacts in electrical contact with the conducting tracks of the circuit board. The clamp can include a resilient layer held between the top surface of electronic components and a rigid clamping sheet.

Solder and lead free electronic circuit and method of manufacturing same

A PCB assembly can be attached to hold one or more such assemblies. A resilient PCB housing holds a PCB by an interference fit while conductive wires are inserted into its wire cavity so that exposed portions of conductive wires make electrical contact with electrical traces of the PCB which is biased by wire insulation. Two conductors can be held by the PCB housing which are forced into electrical contact with the PCB when it is inserted into the resilient PCB housing which then biases such contacts. A switch can also be held by a switch interference fit with the resilient PCB housing such that its leads are biased against the PCB by the resilient PCB housing.
