A method for redundant communication at a network gateway includes (1) exchanging data packets with a network application via a first access communication interface, (2) exchanging data packets with customer premises equipment (CPE) via a local communication interface, and (3) in response to occurrence of a first event, exchanging at least some data packets with the network application via a second access communication interface that is different from the first access communication interface.

Network gateways with redundant communication capability, and associated methods

An optical access network includes an optical hub having at least one processor. The network further includes a plurality of optical distribution centers connected to the optical hub by a plurality of optical fiber segments, respectively, and a plurality of geographic fiber node serving areas. Each fiber node serving area of the plurality of fiber node serving areas includes at least one optical distribution center of the plurality of optical distribution centers. The network further includes a plurality of endpoints. Each endpoint of the plurality of endpoints is in operable communication with at least one optical distribution center. The network further includes a point-to-point network provisioning system configured to (i) evaluate each potential communication path over the plurality of optical fiber segments between a first endpoint and a second endpoint, and (ii) select an optimum fiber path based on predetermined path selection criteria.

Systems and methods for intelligent edge to edge optical system and wavelength provisioning

An edge wavelength-switching system includes an optical switch and a wavelength selective switch. The optical switch includes a west hub-side port, an east hub-side port, a west local-side port, and an east local-side port. The wavelength selective switch includes (i) a multiplexed port optically coupled to the west local-side port and (ii) a bypass port optically coupled to the east local-side port, and (iii) a plurality of demultiplexed ports. An optical network includes a network hub including an M-by-Nwavelength-selective switch, N&#x3e;M&#x2265;1, a first network node, and a second network node. Each of the first and second network nodes includes a respective edge wavelength-switching system. The network hub, the first network node, and the second network node are optically coupled.

An optical access network includes an optical hub having at least one processor.
