Mill for triturating and breaking up solids predispersed in liquids, whose stator consists of two hollow truncated cone-shaped halves connectable to each other by their open major bases provided with flanges, with their minor bases closed and provided with external cooling or heating chambers. The front half presents the grinding body separating means and the outlet connection of the ground product, with its cooling or heating chamber. The rear half presents a central orifice traversed by the rotating shaft of the mill and the inlet connection of the product to be ground. The rotor consists of a body formed by two hollow truncated cones, joined by their open major bases and their minor bases being closed, which are attached to the shaft end. It has a hermetic seal formed by a ring fastened to the shaft, surrounded by a retainer fastened to the rear half of the stator.

To unravel a terminal portion of a textile yarn, in particular in preparation for joining that yarn to another one by twisting their ends together, an extremity of the yarn is vibrated to loosen the fibers while a part of the yarn spaced from its end is held fast and the yarn extremity is combed or subjected to an aspirated air stream to remove loose fibers. The yarn pieces to be joined are stretched between the two pairs of suction tubes (28, 29; 30, 31) and untwisted by being wound about spindles (20, 21). Hot compressed air fed along the surface of two blocks (32, 33) adjacent to the untwisted yarn portions remove free fibers and distribute the fiber tufts in the base of a channel formed in said blocks (32, 33). Said tufts are retained in the base of the channel by an electrostatic field formed with the aid of conductors (46) and the generator (GE). The blocks are then rotated about the rotation shafts (4, 5) until the channel edges are in contact with each other. Air is fed perpendicularly to the plane containing the fiber tufts in proximity to their respective ends in order to cause the fibers of the two tufts to interpenetrate, the spindles (20, 21) then being driven in the reverse direction in order to twist the fiber tufts and to disengage the yarn.

The grinder is equipped with a circulating pump for the product to be treated which circulates in a continuous manner through the grinding chamber. The rotatable grinder axle carries interchangeable discs or agitator elements interspersed with spacers. The grinder includes a separating sieve designed to retain the grinding balls within the grinding chamber while permitting the finely ground product to flow therethrough to the exterior along the length of and around the axle. The sieve includes a cylinder coaxial with the axle and having slots of suitable shape to realize the aforementioned function, which cylinder is coaxially coupled to a cylindrical chamber with product outlet holes so that the sieve cylinder rotates jointly with the grinding chamber axle and, due to this, produces a displacement of the balls towards the exterior by reason of centrifugal force.

The sieve includes a cylinder coaxial and rotatable with the axle and having slots of suitable shape to realize the aforementioned function. The cylinder has product outlet holes which communicate with a surrounding cylindrical product chamber. A separator structure surrounds this rotatable cylinder and coacts with a housing wall for defining a narrow flow passage which communicates directly between the grinding and product chambers. The passage is sized similar to the slots in the sieve.

An improved grinding disc, especially devised for mounting on the agitating shaft of a cooled grinder for the predispersion of solids in liquids. The disc has a plurality of apertures therethrough, preferably three in number, which apertures have an inclined outlet edge. When a determined number of discs are mounted on an agitating shaft of a vat with counterpositioned orientation such that the inclinations of the outlet edges of successive discs are directed in opposing directions, opposing currents are created which notably improve the dispersion of solids in liquids.
