A method supplies or creates a generic electronic index for a hardcopy printed item. The generic electronic index is based on the text within the hardcopy printed item. From this generic electronic index, the method creates a plurality of custom electronic indices from the generic electronic index. Such custom electronic indices can be based on user input and/or user feedback or can be created by marketing agencies, educational institutions, etc. Each of the custom electronic indices is a variant of the generic electronic index, and each of the custom electronic indices is adapted to a different target audience.

Electronic indexing for printed media

The present disclosure provides a method of assigning media access control (MAC) addresses to image paths for a printing system. The method comprises: initializing a MAC address to each image path board in the printing system wherein the printing system includes at least two print engines each having an image path board; modifying a card cage enclosure to include a bit selector for each image path board; and, creating a unique IP address for each MAC address including generating a unique octet for each MAC address. A slot ID is used for the generating of the unique octet for each MAC address having a standard base value.

Test image data is introduced into the image processing path of a marking device, at various points prior to the marking engine. Comparison of output of the marking engine from various sources of image data is made to diagnose imaging path component failure. Imaging data at various points in the image processing path is captured for analysis as part of component failure diagnosis. Various memory devices are used to both introduce test data at various points in the image processing path and capture data at various points of the image processing path.

Reflex writing is a group of algorithms developed to maintain color registration in xerographic systems using multiple imagers, in which sequential color separations are written based on events in the spatial domain. The imaging system includes a raster output scanner imager for the black station and a light emitting diode bar for the color station. A simulated machine clock signal is generated based on a running average of a plurality of actual machine clock periods determined from pulses received from a photoreceptor module drive roll encoder. For each black scanline written the distance the belt travels is tracked using the simulated machine clock signal, and when the black latent image scanline has traveled the known distance between the two imagers, the light emitting diode scanline is written registered with respect to the raster output scanner scanline.
