This invention relates to a device (mandrel) serving as element for maintaining a cylindrical support tube around which yarn is wound. It is constituted by two elementary sleeves, mounted opposite each other on the drive shaft, said sleeves comprising peripheral fingers regularly spaced with respect to one another, the fingers of one sleeve abutting against the surface included between the fingers of the other sleeve.
