Methods and systems for controlling a view of a virtual camera in a virtual world. A view of user viewing a virtual world may be controlled or changed while accounting for a user's head position. For example, a virtual camera may be wrapped in a container such that rotation of the container causes rotation of the virtual camera relative to a global coordinate system. Based on a position of a head-mounted display, an initial virtual camera rotation angle relative to a global coordinate system of the virtual world may be identified. An indication to change to view to particular direction may be received. A desired rotation angle relative to the global coordinate system for a view to correspond to the particular direction is then determined. The container is then rotated by a rotation value based at least on both the desired rotation angle and the initial virtual camera rotation angle.

The techniques disclosed herein enable systems to centralize access to various digital items irrespective of the location of those digital items. To achieve this, items that are stored at their original location, e.g., within a cloud storage platform, can be selected by a user for storage at a centralized location such as a favorites section. These items are selected using an interface control which can be an operating system component of an item keeping system that is accessible in any context or application. The item keeping system can generate an item alias for selected items which is then stored in the centralized location. In addition, item aliases can be moved to various destinations by the user to enable customized item storage for items of varying types, origin, and location. In addition, functionality of the interface control can be modified to suite selected items.

Systems and methods for opening a file via a user device. One system includes an electronic processor. The electronic processor is configured to receive a request to open the file, determine a file type of the file, determine an application installed on the user device configured to open files of the file type, and determine a version of the application installed on the user device. The electronic processor is also configured to compare the version of the application installed on the user device to a predetermined version, and selectively open the file using a web-based adaptation of the application based on comparing the version of the application installed on the user device to the predetermined version.

A desired state system monitors an activity of a first product operating on a machine. The desired state system determines a second product that is connected to the first product. The first product and the second product are both part of a family of products. The activity of the second product is compared with the desired activity of the second product. The desired state system generates a customized message based on the comparison at the machine.

Providing user interaction guidance for services and associated applications may become more difficult as their variety and depth increases. Embodiments are directed to managing activation of and providing guidance on how to use a hosted service. For example, an initial configuration of a user interface (UI) of the hosted service that includes at least one element to highlight functionality may be provided for display. An initial action may be received from a user associated with the functionality, the initial action may be performed, and the UI may be updated to reflect the performed initial action. The initial action may be an activation action or upload action, for example. Additionally, a teaching UI element with a celebratory message to highlight the performed initial action and to provide additional information may be provided for display and rendered at a proximate position to a representation of the performed initial action.

Aspects of the present disclosure relate to three-dimensional (3D) environment authoring and generation. In an example, a 3D environment may be authored using one or more models, wherein two-dimensional (2D) representations of the models may be manipulated using an authoring application. Models may comprise anchor points, which may be used to stitch the models together when rendering the 3D environment. In another example, a model may comprise one or more content points, which may be used to position content within the 3D environment. An environment data file may be generated based on the one or more models and content associated with content points, thereby creating a file that may be distributed to other computing devices. A viewer application may be used to generate the 3D environment based on the environment data file. Accordingly, the viewer application may stitch the models and populate the 3D environment with content.

A file management service initiates operations to provide the move notification upon detecting the move operation to move the file from a source location to a destination location. A stakeholder is identified with an access to the destination location prior to executing the move operation to move the file from the source location to the destination location. After executing the move operation, a move notification is generated to inform the stakeholder of the move operation. The move notification provides information such as a description of the file, the source location, the destination location, and/or an identification of an initiator of the move operation. Furthermore, the move notification is transmitted to the stakeholder.

Techniques are described herein that are capable of using relevant objects to add content to a collaborative repository. The relevant objects are selected from URI-addressable objects based on each relevant object satisfying one or more relevance criteria. The relevant objects are recommended via a user interface. A determination is made that a specified relevant object is selected from the relevant objects. In one example, the content may be added to (e.g., created in) the collaborative repository based on the specified relevant object. In another example, the specified relevant object may be used to represent a new object type in a new content menu. For instance, the new object type may be selectable to cause an object of the new object type to be created in the collaborative repository.

Automatic installation and/or activation selection for hosted services is provided. A set-up user interface for users to sign up and activate their membership with a hosted service may prompt an activation module to analyze a computing environment of a requesting user to determine if a client application associated with the hosted service is pre-installed or not. If the client application is pre-installed, the user may be provided a control such as a button to activate the client application and begin using the hosted service. If the client application is not pre-installed, the activation module may determine which version of the client application is proper for the computing environment (e.g., operating system, operating system version, device, and similar parameters) and where it can be downloaded from. The activation module may then present the user with a link to the location for downloading and optionally installing the client application automatically.

The present disclosure describes a system and method to automatically extract image features from an image uploaded to an image processing service executing on a cloud server from an image capture device, determine an image classification based at least in part on the image features, transmit a request to the image capture device for an image action based at least in part on the image classification, and execute the image action on the image based at least in part on receiving the image action from the image capture device in response to the request.
