Electric vehicle supply equipment includes an enclosure, an electric vehicle supply circuit for providing a flow of current to an electric vehicle, a charge circuit interrupting device, the charge circuit interrupting device arranged to interrupt the flow of current to the electric vehicle, a grounding monitor circuit, the grounding monitor circuit coupled to grounding conductors, the grounding monitor circuit having a grounding output signal, a ground default detection circuit, the ground fault detection circuit coupled to current carrying conductors, the ground fault detection circuit having a fault detection output signal, a controller, the controller coupled to the grounding monitor circuit, the ground fault detection circuit and the charge circuit interrupting device, the controller arranged to control the charge circuit interrupting device, and logic arranged to receive the grounding and fault detection signals and the control signal, and assert a close signal based upon the grounding and fault detection signals.

An EVSE system includes an electric vehicle supply circuit having overcurrent protection circuit to prevent excessive current from flowing to the electric vehicle. A current limit may be set by a manufacturer of the EVSE, by a user of the EVSE, by an electric utility, by the EVSE itself in response to a control pilot signal, etc. The current limit may be set to prevent tripping an overcurrent protection device on a branch circuit for the EVSE, to accommodate one or more parameters of an electric vehicle charging facility, etc. The overcurrent protection feature may be integrated into a controller for the electric vehicle supply circuit, or it may be operate independently of the controller.

An enhanced power distribution unit (PDU) with self-orienting display uses an orientation sensor in conjunction with a microprocessor to properly orient visual display of information by one or more displays of the enhanced PDU. Information displayed can relate to electrical current furnished to one or more power outlets of the enhanced PDU and/or information related to temperature, humidity or other conditions of the enhanced PDU.

An EVSE system includes an electric vehicle supply circuit, and a timer adapted to automatically control the electric vehicle supply circuit. The timer may be adapted to enable and/or disable the electric vehicle supply circuit at one or more predetermined times. The timer may be coordinated with a scheduling system such as a calendar utility on a computer or portable communication device such as a smart phone. The system may include a user interface for the timer. The user interface may include an embedded server such as an embedded web server to enable a user to program the timer through the Internet.

A surge protection circuit utilizing direct current (DC) voltage on the information carrying coaxial cable of a receiving device with a surge protection device to suppress transient signal fluctuations over the coaxial cable and a diagnostic surge protection status indicator with on/off configurations to indicate the status of operation of the surge protection device. The visual indicator may be a light emitting diode or some other indicator device that when energized indicates normal operation of the surge protection circuit.

A lighted power outlet system having a plurality of outlets includes light emitters, such as light emitting diodes or other light emitting devices. The light emitters are internally positioned within the interior of the outlet system so that light is projected through terminal apertures of the outlets. The projected light is visible from locations exterior to the outlet system to assist in guiding alignment of plug prongs with the terminal apertures for engagement of electrical plugs with the outlets of the outlet system.
