A computer-implemented method and computer program product for autoscaling a streaming platform in an event-driven microservice architecture. Upon a new consumer being added to a consumer group, the streaming platform triggers a rebalance phase if the number of the consumers in the consumer group is less than the number of the partitions and assign a new partition if the number of the consumers in the consumer group is greater than the number of the partitions. Upon a consumer being removed from a consumer group, in response to determining that the number of partitions is greater than the number of consumers, the streaming platform stops message publishing to a partition that is consumed by the consumer, allows remaining messages in the partition to be consumed, and deletes the partition in response to determining that all the remaining messages are consumed.

Autoscaling a distributed streaming platform in an event-driven microservice architecture

Provided are techniques for providing a global unique identifier for a storage volume. Under control of a storage initiator, a Global Universally Unique Identifier (GUUID) is identified for a storage volume of a storage device in a cloud system storing a plurality of storage devices, wherein the GUUID is generated for use with an ATA over Ethernet (AoE) protocol. The GUUID is stored in bytes of a packet header structure. Metadata is stored in remaining portions of the packet header structure. A request with the packet header structure is sent to a storage target.

Providing a global unique identifier for a storage volume

A request for changing data of a file system data structure stored on a shingled magnetic recording (SMR) drive is received. The data change is logged in a log entry of a log structure stored in a non-volatile random access memory (NVRAM). The log entry is added as a new entry at an end of the log structure. The log entry is marked within the NVRAM as modified and a predetermined criterion is determined to be satisfied. Responsive to determining that the predetermined criterion is satisfied, the NVRAM is searched for log entries marked as modified. The modified log entries are stored to the SMR drive.

Branch instructions are managed in an emulation environment that is executing a program. A plurality of slots in a Polymorphic Inline Cache is populated. A plurality of entries is populated in a branch target buffer residing within an emulated environment in which the program is executing. When an indirect branch instruction associated with the program is encountered, a target address associated with the instruction is identified from the indirect branch instruction. At least one address in each of the slots of the Polymorphic Inline Cache is compared to the target address associated with the indirect branch instruction. If none of the addresses in the slots of the Polymorphic Inline Cache matches the target address associated with the indirect branch instruction, the branch target buffer is searched to identify one of the entries in the branch target buffer that is associated with the target address of the indirect branch instruction.

Branch instructions are managed in an emulation environment that is executing a program. A plurality of entries is populated in a branch target buffer that resides within an emulated environment in which the program is executing. Each of the entries comprises an instruction address and a target address of a branch instruction of the program. When an indirect branch instruction of the program is encountered a processor analyzes one of the entries in the branch target buffer to determine if the instruction address of the one entry is associated with a target address of the indirect branch instruction. If the instruction address of the one entry is associated with the target address of the indirect branch instruction a branch to the target address of the one entry is performed.
