A moldable photovoltaic module is provided. The module includes a flexible polymeric flex-circuit substrate having an electrically conductive printed wiring pattern and solder pads defined on it. Small photovoltaic cells are affixed to the flex-circuit substrate by back-surface contacts in electrical contact with the solder pads. At least one thermoformable polymeric film is joined to the flex-circuit substrate. Each said solder pad comprises a solder composition that, after an initial melt, has a melting point that lies above at least a portion of the temperature range for thermoforming the polymeric film.

Moldable photovoltaic solar cell module

Methods are provided for fabricating a HEMT (high-electron-mobility transistor) that involve sequential epitaxial growth of III-nitride channel and barrier layers, followed by epitaxial regrowth of further III-nitride material through a window in a mask layer. The regrowth takes place on the barrier layer, only in the access region or regions. Devices made according to the disclosed methods are also provided.

Regrowth method for fabricating wide-bandgap transistors, and devices made thereby

Methods are provided for fabricating a HEMT (high-electron-mobility transistor) that involve sequential epitaxial growth of III-nitride channel and barrier layers, followed by epitaxial regrowth of further III-nitride material through a window in a mask layer. In examples, the regrowth takes place over exposed portions of the channel layer in the source and drain regions of the device, and the regrown material has a composition different from the barrier layer. In other examples, the regrowth takes place on the barrier layer, only in the access region or regions. Devices made according to the disclosed methods are also provided.

A method, system and apparatus including a device cell having a top side, a bottom side and opposing side walls. A passivation layer is formed along the top side, the bottom side and opposing side walls of the device cell. The passivation layer serves to passivate the device cell and facilitate carrier collection around the device cell. An anti-reflective layer is formed over the passivation layer and an optical layer is formed on the top side of the device cell. The optical layer reflects light within the device cell. The apparatus may further include a reflective layer formed along the bottom side of the device cell, the reflective layer to reflect light internally within the device cell.

High performance ultra-thin solar cell structures

A method is provided for making a molded photovoltaic module. A method including providing a substrate comprising a device layer on which a plurality of device cells are defined; depositing a first dielectric layer on the device layer and metal interconnect such that the deposited interconnect is electrically connected to at least two of the device cells; depositing a second dielectric layer over the interconnect; and exposing at least one contact point on the interconnect through the second dielectric layer. An apparatus including a substrate having defined thereon a device layer including a plurality of device cells; a first dielectric layer disposed directly on the device layer; a plurality of metal interconnects, each of which is electrically connected to at least two of the device cells; and a second dielectric layer disposed over the first dielectric layer and over the interconnects, wherein the second dielectric layer is patterned in a positive or negative planar spring pattern.

Fast process flow, on-wafer interconnection and singulation for MEPV

A process including forming a photovoltaic solar cell on a substrate, the photovoltaic solar cell comprising an anchor positioned between the photovoltaic solar cell and the substrate to suspend the photovoltaic solar cell from the substrate. A surface of the photovoltaic solar cell opposite the substrate is attached to a receiving substrate. The receiving substrate may be bonded to the photovoltaic solar cell using an adhesive force or a metal connecting member. The photovoltaic solar cell is then detached from the substrate by lifting the receiving substrate having the photovoltaic solar cell attached thereto and severing the anchor connecting the photovoltaic solar cell to the substrate. Depending upon the type of receiving substrate used, the photovoltaic solar cell may be removed from the receiving substrate or remain on the receiving substrate for use in the final product.

Photovoltaic solar concentrator

A method includes forming a release layer over a donor substrate. A plurality of devices made of a first semiconductor material are formed over the release layer. A first dielectric layer is formed over the plurality of devices such that all exposed surfaces of the plurality of devices are covered by the first dielectric layer. The plurality of devices are chemically attached to a receiving device made of a second semiconductor material different than the first semiconductor material, the receiving device having a receiving substrate attached to a surface of the receiving device opposite the plurality of devices. The release layer is etched to release the donor substrate from the plurality of devices. A second dielectric layer is applied over the plurality of devices and the receiving device to mechanically attach the plurality of devices to the receiving device.

Processes for multi-layer devices utilizing layer transfer

In a technique for reducing duplicate messages in a two way data device, a determination (30) is made as to whether a first signature of a new message is the same as a second signature of a matching message. An error check is performed (50) on the new message when the first and second signatures are the same. A first response flag of the new message and a second response flag of the matching message are compared (40) when the first and second signatures are not the same. When the first and second response flags are both enabled, the new message is stored (20). Otherwise the error check is performed (50) on the new message. Select portions of the new message and matching message are stored (70, 80, 100, 110) in place of the matching message, depending on the comparison of the first and second response flags and the error check.

Message processing in two-way data devices

In a liquid crystal display (16) having rows and columns of pixels (22), one or more selected rows of pixels are turned off (put in a standby mode) in a manner that saves power. A row of pixels is turned off by applying to the row a cyclical two-level voltage (BP2) having a magnitude that, when combined with voltages (FP3) applied to columns, results in each pixel in the selected row receiving a combined voltage (BP2-FP3) having a reduced number of transitions (30), having a magnitude that is insufficient to turn on a pixel, and having an average value of substantially zero over a cycle. The method is incorporated in a liquid crystal display apparatus (32) having a mode control (54) for switching selected rows of pixels between an active mode and a standby mode.

Liquid crystal display and turn-off method therefor

A dielectric paste material may be used in the fabrication of multilayered ceramic modules to create circuit elements. The dielectric paste is a multiphase material in which at least one phase is an alkaline earth metal, transition metal silicate. This yields a dielectric paste with extremely good K & Q values suitable for high frequency applications which significantly reduce manufacturing costs of modules.

Low temperature cofireable dielectric paste

A method for producing input/output connections in a ceramic device is disclosed. The ceramic device can provide wraparound input/output connections. The method can include first providing first and second green ceramic layers, forming at least one via in each ceramic layer, the at least one via in the second layer being offset from and connecting to the via in the first ceramic layer, filling the vias with metallization, laminating the ceramic layers to form a laminate, scoring the laminate along at least one line extending through the first via and into a portion of the second ceramic layer such that the line does not intersect the at least one second via the ceramic laminate and metalization, and cleaving the laminate along the scored line. A ceramic device using this method can provide a wraparound connection extending partially up the side thereof, which can be advantageous in many multi-layer applications.

Method for producing input/output connections in a ceramic device

A palladium paste is utilized for forming a palladium film on a ceramic substrate. The paste includes a sinterable palladium powder dispersed in a vaporizable liquid vehicle. The paste also includes minor additions of titanium dioxide powder and a metal titanate powder. A preferred titanate powder is composed of strontium calcium titanate. It is found that the additions remarkably improve adhesion of the palladium film to the substrate.
