The solution introduces a method and system in a network node of a telecommunication network such as the MME. The method includes receiving, from an eNodeB, an attach request that originated from a UE, the attach request including an identifier associated with a subscriber of the UE; checking a UE blacklist to determine whether the identifier in the attach request is on the UE blacklist; in response to the UE identifier being on the UE blacklist: rejecting the attach request; updating a success rate metric to reflect the failed attach request; comparing the success rate metric to a threshold; and in response to a decrease in the success rate metric below the threshold, recognizing a malicious attack and taking mitigating steps.

System and method for detecting malicious attacks in a telecommunication network

An MME keeps track of network tracking mobility characteristics by periodically updating a TA transition probability matrix derived from a global table that maintains UE movement data in the network by noting current TA and most recently known previous TA of each EU for every TAU event and paging event. The MME also maintains data of the number of paging events and TAUs performed by each UE and stores a paging ratio versus TAU for each UE. The UE characteristics, UE paging ratio, and network mobility characteristic are utilized in an algorithm that constructs a TA list for each UE designed to minimize the overall traffic cost function for paging events and TAU events for that UE and the overall network. Optionally, the TA list for each EU is constrained to meet certain minimum performance characteristics such as a predetermined paging success rate target and/or a predetermined delay bound target.

Tracking area management method and apparatus for long term evolution telecommunication systems

Provided is a system and method for controlling overload in a telecommunications network. The network carries a traffic load that may include traffic of multiple classes and mixed types. The method determines whether the traffic load has exceeded one or more overload thresholds. Each threshold is associated with a class or type of traffic. If one or more of the thresholds have been exceeded, the method sets a timer associated with the exceeded threshold. Each timer has a state (e.g., expired or not expired) and the states of the timers are used to look up a function for controlling the overload. The function is used to alter the traffic flow of one or more of the traffic classes.

Overload control system and method for a telecommunications system

Provided is a system and method for controlling overload in a telecommunications network. The network carries a traffic load that may exceed a maximum resource capacity and drive the network into an overload state. The method determines whether an overload state has occurred by comparing a current resource capacity to an overload onset threshold. If the threshold has been exceeded, the method blocks a certain percentage of traffic. An incrementally increasing percentage of traffic is blocked until the resource capacity crosses an overload abatement level. The method then incrementally decreases the percentage of blocked traffic until no traffic is blocked.

Adaptive cell gapping overload control system and method for a telecommunications system

A communication system provides wireless voice and multimedia communications and includes a base station, a plurality of wireless mobile units and a bandwidth allocator. The base station provides wireless coverage throughout a service area and has a bandwidth for providing the wireless coverage. The plurality of wireless mobile units operate within the service area and communicate with the base station to transmit and receive both voice communications and multimedia communications. The bandwidth allocator selectively allocates the bandwidth in response to wireless multimedia communication requirements to achieve a minimum transmission rate for multimedia communications. The communication system may include a plurality of channels, each having a channel bandwidth with the bandwidth allocator selectively allocating the channels in response to the multimedia communication requirements to achieve the minimum transmission rate. The base station may also include a plurality of data modems, each of the data modems providing a respective portion of the bandwidth, the bandwidth allocator selectively allocating the plurality of data modems of the base station to achieve the minimum transmission rate. Further, at least one of the wireless mobile units may include a plurality of data modems with the bandwidth allocator selectively allocating the data modems of the wireless mobile unit to achieve the minimum transmission rate. In such case, each of the of the plurality of modems may be assigned a channel. In some constructions, the bandwidth allocator may allocate time divisions of the plurality of channels bandwidth while in other constructions may allocate allocating code divisions of the bandwidth to achieve the minimum transmission rate.
