A reclosable package for holding items comprises a container having a front portion, top end portion and back portion. An adhesive front label is applied to the front portion of the container. A flexible adhesive flap is then applied which covers the label, top end, and back portions of the container. The label and front portion of the container has a contoured edge formed therein to define an opening edge. The flap includes a non-adhesive pull tab. Lifting the pull tab detaches the front portion along the contoured edge and also removes the top end to open the package. The back of the flap remains attached to the back of the package to form a hinged connection. The flap is resealable to the front portion of the package, to allow the package to be reclosed.

A cardboard stick gum dispenser comprises a rectangular-shaped container which has a slot formed on the lower part of its front panel. A paper sling extends from the upper part of the container's rear panel through the inside of the container to the slot. A free end of the sling extends from the slot and a stack of stick gum is supported on the sling inside the container. An individually wrapped stick of gum is drawn through the slot whenever the free end of the sling is pulled away from the container.

A tamper indicator for a blister package having a rupturable lid which is attached to a base formed with recesses that hold articles in the recesses between the lid and the base. The indicator comprises an easily ruptured and tearable film that completely covers the exposed surface of the base and is attached to the lid near the juncture of the lid and the base.

A tear oriented package is provided and is formed of a pair of wall members sealed together about their peripheral edges when aligned with one another. In this manner a sealed chamber is formed therebetween for holding preselected items therein. At least one of the wall members is formed of foamed polypropylene material to facilitate the tearing of the one wall member to open the package in one predetermined direction while resisting the opening of the package in other directions due to the orientation of the foamed polypropylene material. The package can be made to be reclosable by placing a predetermined amount of cohesive material on a preselected portion of the package.

Method and apparatus for testing hermetic seal integrity of sealed packages and containers, are provided. The method includes placing a sealed test package having at least one semi-flexible surface, within a test chamber. The pressure within the test chamber is changed from a first value to a second value, over the time interval of a test cycle. During the time interval of the test cycle, both the pressure within the test chamber and the displacement of the semi-flexible surface of the test package are continuously measured, and produced therefrom, are a first analog data signal proportional to the pressure within the test chamber, and a second analog data signal proportional to the displacement of the semi-flexible surface of the test package. During the time interval of the test cycle, the first analog data signal is converted into a first discrete data sequence, and the second analog data signal is converted into a second discrete data sequence. From the first discrete data sequence and the second discrete data sequence, a correlation estimate is computed in accordance with principles of statistical analysis, as to provide a reliable measure of hermetic seal integrity of the test package.

Disclosed herein is an apparatus and method for testing the integrity of a package having a flexible surface. The apparatus includes a chamber which can be sealed whereby it may be pressurized or a vacuum may be drawn. Inside the chamber is a transducer sensitive to the flexible surface of the package to be tested. Positioning of the transducer against the package to be tested is done automatically by a device which is computer controlled. The sequence of testing is also computer controlled whereby the chamber is sealed with the package in it, the probe is automatically adjusted to contact the flexible surface, the pressure of vacuum is applied to the chamber in order to test the integrity and thereafter the condition of the package is analyzed and recorded by a computer which receives the signal generated from the measuring transducers. The information is analyzed by the computer and a decision made regarding the airtightness of the package using either linear regression analysis or peak detection. Any change in the flexible surface of the package is monitored and considered throughout the test sequence. The information derived from the transducers is recorded on, for example, a strip chart or a CRT and thereafter the pressure or vacuum in the chamber is released whereby the package can be removed and contents replaced therein for testing.
