Monoalkylated phenoxathins are high-temperature stable lubricant fluids having extreme pressure and antiwear properties, additive solubility and inherent EP/antiwear properties. These novel phenoxathin fluids may also be used as additives in other lubricant fluids and are prepared by alkyating a phenoxathin in the presence of an acidic zeolite catalyst.

Polymerizable (that is, e.g., monomeric) polyfluorinated compounds, when added to a lubricant or to a liquid hydrocarbon fuel, as for example gasoline, will cause a reduction in fuel consumption.
