The apparatus may include a carrier (236, 238, 250) for holding a contact print slide; a first mechanism (100-182) for receiving a contact print slide and for moving a contact print slide into a first position for engagement with and removal by the carrier; a second mechanism (56-72, 192-206) for moving the carrier toward the first position to engage the carrier with a contact print slide received by the first mechanism and for moving the carrier away from the first position to remove a contact print slide from the first mechanism; and a third mechanism (208-248) for moving the carrier toward a photographic paper supported by the platen, in order to place a contact print slide engaged with the carrier into contact with a photographic paper supported by the platen at the print gate.

An apparatus for reading optical code on a moving web of photographic film includes a first frame (84); a pair of parallel tracks (132, 134) supported by the fast frame; a pair of carriage members (138, 140) mounted for movement along the tracks; a pair of oppositely facing edge guides (148, 156, 158) each supported by one of the carriage members, each edge guide including a serpentine contact surface (160) with a central portion (162) for engaging an edge surface of a moving web; and a mechanism (106-120) for moving the carriage members back and forth along the tracks; and a pair of flexures (122, 124) for resiliently engaging the mechanism for moving with the carriage members, to resiliently load the edges of the web. The reader includes a housing (284) having a slot (286) through which an edge of the web may be transported; a light source (290) mounted on one side of the slot; a code reader (294) mounted on the other side of the slot; a frame (138, 140) for supporting the housing; and a mechanism (302-310) for moving the housing relative to the frame to adjust a location of the code reader relative to an edge of a web.

Apparatus for reading optical code on moving photographic film

The present invention relates to a cutting apparatus which includes a cutter. A pair of sensors is used to detect a lead edge of an image located on a receiver sheet. In response to the sensors the cutter and the lead edge of the image are aligned. The receiving sheet is transported in a direction essentially perpendicular to the cutter. The cutter cuts the receiving sheet adjacent and parallel to the lead and trail edges of the image. A cut lead edge of the receiving sheet is edge registered. A third sensor detects edges of the image perpendicular to the cut lead edge of the image. A second cutter, responsive to the third sensor, cuts the receiving sheet adjacent edges of the image perpendicular to the cut lead edge of the image.

A reproduction apparatus includes a mechanism for transporting a web carrying electrostatically held toner images through an endless path. The web includes a plurality of closely spaced perforations along an edge. A transfer device includes a drum for presenting a receiving surface to the web to receive a plurality of images in registery, for example, color separation images that will make up a multicolor image on the receiving surface. The transfer drum is driven through a gear train by a sprocket which engages the perforations. The sprocket may also drive the web. To assure the most accurate registry despite inaccuracies in the gear train or perforation location, the pitch of the images on the web divided by the circumference of the sprocket is an integer, preferably 1 and preferably, the circumference of the sprocket divided by the circumference of each of the gears in the gear train is an integer.

A transfer roller apparatus for use for example in an electrographic copier including a dielectric member adapted to carry electrostatically developed marking particle images. The transfer roller apparatus employs a locating and tacking mechanism of simple construction which is capable of accurately locating a receiver member on the periphery of the transfer roller without damaging the dielectric member of the copier. Such apparatus includes a cylindrical roller to which an electrical bias is applied to establish a transfer field between the roller and the dielectric member to effect transfer of marking particle images from the dielectric member to a receiver member accurately located on the peripheral surface of the roller. A flexible member having a receiver member locating feature is associated with the roller. The flexible member is attached to the transfer roller such that the feature is normally in a first position extending above the peripheral surface of the roller for locating the receiver member on the peripheral surface, and is urged to a second position at least coincident with the peripheral surface to prevent damage to the dielectric member as the roller rotates to bring the flexible member in opposed relation to the dielectric member. The lead marginal edge of the a receiver member located by such locating mechanism is vacuum tacked to the peripheral surface.

A transfer roller apparatus for use for example in an electrographic copier including a dielectric member adapted to carry electrostatically developed marking particle images, and the mechanism for applying an electrical bias thereto. The transfer roller apparatus, employing a mechanism for accurately locating a receiver member on the periphery of the roller, dielectric member of the copier. Such apparatus includes a conductive core, mounted for rotation about its longitudinal axis and located such that its peripheral surface is in operative relation with the dielectric member. An electrical bias is applied to the roller to establish a transfer field between the roller and the dielectric member to effect transfer of marking particle images from the dielectric member to a receiver member accurately located on the peripheral surface of the roller. The bias is applied by connecting an electrical potential source to the roller through the conductive core. A discontinuity in the transfer field is created in the area of the roller surface over which located and tacking of a receiver member are effected.

A transfer roller apparatus for use for example in an electrographic copier including a dielectric member adapted to carry electrostatically developed marking particle images on successive image receiving areas. The transfer roller apparatus, is driven to synchronize transfer roller rotation with dielectric member movement for accurate transfer of marking particle images to a receiver member on such roller peripheral surface. The roller transfer apparatus includes a gear train having a first gear coupled to a rotational motive source and a last gear coaxially coupled to the transfer roller. The transfer roller is articulatable to a first position in operative relation with the dielectric member, a second position in operative relation with a cleaning mechanism for the peripheral surface of the roller, and a third rest position intermdiate the first and second positions. Articulation of the transfer roller is effective about an axis which is coincident with an intermediate gear in the gear train whereby the gears in the gear train remain in mesh during articulation of the roller to maintain the synchronous relationship between the roller and the dielectric member.
