A color cathode ray tube incorporates a getter assembly and contactor structure that is introduced into the interior of the tube through the open neck subsequent to the sealing of the panel and funnel portions of the envelope, and a mounting bracket affixed to the internal magnetic shield of the tube for receiving and securely holding the getter assembly and contactor structure, enabling the use of non-bakable getter material in feedback-type tubes.

Resilient means on the mask frame of a cathode ray tube support the mask-frame assembly by mating with positioning studs embedded in the sidewall of the tube's viewing panel. To prevent permanent deformation of the resilient support means, mesas are formed adjacent to each means to beneficially limit their flexural movement necessitated by repeated insertion and removal of the mask-frame assembly during tube manufacturing.

The invention relates to improved combination means for achieving positive placement of an internal electrical contactor in a cathode ray tube to effect and maintain a definitively oriented connection between an internal magnetic shield and a conductive coating disposed on the interior surface of the funnel portion of the tube envelope. Discrete portions of the shield are modified to form a pair of contactor positioning nubs and a cooperating indentation to contain a portion of the contactor in desired alignment therewith.

A shadow mask for color cathode ray tubes has increased resistance to doming caused by heat generated within the tube during operation. A plurality of spaced protuberances formed on the mask frame provide the welding locations for the mask itself and thus provide a space between the frame wall and the mask wall. This reduces the stresses normally introduced into the mask when it is welded to the frame and reduces the tendency to dome during heating.

Microphonic suppressors are included in a color cathode ray tube. The suppressors are attached to the shadow mask and extend within the space between the mask and tube wall. One end of the suppressor contacts the tube wall. Constructed of spring-like material, the suppressors absorb sound waves generated within the television receiver before these sound waves can cause vibration of the shadow mask.

The invention relates to improved combination means for effecting an electrical connection in a cathode ray tube between an internal magnetic shield and a conductive coating disposed on the interior surface of the funnel portion of the tube envelope. The longitudinal connector employs a configurated clip-type attachment element which securely mates with a fluting formed on the shield to provide a rapidly achieved secure attachment.

In a process for fabricating cathode ray tube display screens, a faceplate having a layer of photosensitive material on the inner surface and an apertured mask spaced from the photosensitive material and affixed to the faceplate is disposed on and supported by an exposure chamber having a source of actinic energy spaced from the faceplate with a shutter intermediate the energy source and the faceplate and the shutter movable in a given direction to cause light rays from the energy source to impinge the faceplate and movable in the same given direction to interrupt impingement of the faceplate by light rays from the energy source.

Exposure apparatus and method for manufacturing a cathode ray tube

An improvement is provided in a cathode ray tube screen exposure device wherein both the intensity and the shaping of the exposure radiation is improved by employing two conjunctive sources of radiant energy. The alpha source is positioned in a substantially superjacent manner relative to a related beta source on a substantially common optical axis. Each source is separately adjustable in a limited arcual manner, during operation of the device, to achieve optimized light output in the form of a conjunctive source of radiant energy of optimized shaping.

An improvement is provided in a cathode ray tube screen exposure device to achieve optimum optical alignment of related components constituting the exposure optical system. In relationship with a discretely positioned light output area, separate means are provided to achieve fine adjustable positionings of both the source of radiant energy and the associated reflective means in both x and y related directions in planes normal to the optical axis, and in the z related direction in planes parallel to a central axis. Each of the respective optical alignment adjustments is individually effected by linkages to separate exteriorly located control means. Retentive means are incorporated in the respective linkages to insure accurate maintenance of the cooperative adjustments.
