Use of H3K9me3 modulation for enhancing cognitive function and treating anxiety related disorders is presented. A composition is administered to the subject comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a SUV39H1 inhibitor comprising analogs of ETP69. The therapeutically effective amount is effective in treating cognitive dysfunction in aging and age-related disorders.

Use of H3K9me3 modulation for enhancing cognitive function

Provides quantitative data about a two or more dimensional image. Classifies and counts number of entities an image contains. Each entity comprises a structure, or some other type of identifiable portion having definable characteristics. The entities located within an image may have different shape, color, texture, etc., but still belong to the same classification. Alternatively, entities comprising a similar color/texture may be classified as one type while entities comprising a different color/texture may be classified as another type. May quantify image data according to set of changing criteria and derive one or more classifications for entities in image. I.e., provides a way for a computer to determine what kind of entities (e.g., entities) are in image and counts total number of entities visually identified in image. Information utilized during a training process may be stored and applied across different images.

Method and apparatus for generating special-purpose image analysis algorithms

Embodiments of the invention are directed to a device that combines microfabrication, microfluidic, and surface micropatterning techniques to create a multi-compartment neuronal culturing device that has application across a number of different neuroscience uses. Devices configured in accordance with the invention allow directed growth of neurites and isolation of neurites from their cell bodies. The device can use hydrostatic pressure to isolate insults to one compartment and, thus, expose localized areas of neurons to insults. Due to the high resistance of the microgrooves for fluid transport, insults are contained in the neuritic compartment without appreciable leakage into the somal compartment for a certain period of time (e.g., over 15 h).

One embodiment of the invention provides a process and related apparatus for obtaining quantitative data about a 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional image, or other dimensional image. For example, the invention is capable of classifying and counting the number of entities an image contains. Each entity comprises an entity, structure, or some other type of identifiable portion of the image having definable characteristics. The entities located within an image may have a different shape, color, texture, or other definable characteristic, but still belong to the same classification. In other instances, entities comprising a similar color, and texture may be classified as one type while entities comprising a different color, and texture may be classified as another type. An image may contain multiple entities and each entity may belong to a different class. Thus, the system embodying the invention may quantify image data according to a set of changing criteria and derive one or more classifications for the entities in the image. Once the image data is classified, the total number of entities in the image is calculated and presented to the user. Put simply, embodiments of the invention provides a way for a computer to determine what kind of entities (e.g., entities) are in an image and counts the total number of entities that can be visually identified in the image. Another aspect of the invention is that the information utilized during a training process may be stored and applied across different images.

This method constitutes administering a metabotropic receptor agonist to such a mammal. In particular, the agonist trans-ACPD or 1S,3R-ACPD can be administered intravenously to treat a mammal with Alzheimer's disease.

Use of metabotropic receptor agonists in progressive neurodegenerative

A method for treating or preventing neuronal injury in a mammal, comprising the step of administering in vivo a therapeutically effective amount of a long-chain fatty alcohol having from about 23 to about 29 carbon atoms or prodrug esters thereof. Also disclosed are pharmacological compositions containing from 0.01 mg/kg to about 20 mg/kg of the fatty alcohol. The method and compositions are useful in: treating traumatic injury, chemical injury and injury due to disease; promoting and accelerating recovery of behavioral function after such injury; preventing neuronal injury or death; improving training and memory functions; and protecting neurons against injury.
