A method and system for archiving 3D geometry information for a plurality of subjects, and on a particular part of the body (which may also be the whole body) is described. The method and system allow an organizing and an analyzing step, resulting in scalable characteristic components for the particular part of the body, and an approximation of the geometry of that particular part of the body for a specific subject by a combination of a subset of those characteristic components with corresponding scale factors, which are then stored. The method comprises the steps of: *organizing for each of said plurality of subjects the 3D geometry information according to a predetermined standard, thus obtaining organized 3D geometry information; analyzing the organized 3D geometry information of said plurality of subjects, resulting in averaged 3D geometry information of said particular part of the body; and&#x2014;scalable characteristic components of said particular part of the body; such that for each of said plurality of subjects said organized 3D geometry information can be approximated by a combination of said scalable characteristic components relative to said averaged 3D geometry information; comparing, for at least one out of said plurality of subjects, said organized 3D geometry information with said averaged 3D geometry information and determining a subset of said scalable characteristic components and corresponding scale factors, for approximating to a given accuracy said organized 3D geometry information relative to said averaged 3D geometry information by a combination of said scalable characteristic components out of said subset, each characteristic component scaled with its corresponding scale factor; storing, for at least one specific subject out of said plurality of subjects, said approximated organized 3D geometry information by storing&#x2014;said averaged 3D geometry information; &#x2014;said subset of said scalable characteristic components and said corresponding scale factors for said specific subject.

Method and system for archiving subject-specific, three-dimensional information about the geometry of part of the body

A three-dimensional computer model of the patient's tooth, including the pulp chamber and root canals, is created by combining at least one grey value image of the tooth and/or surface information about at least part of the intra-orally visible part of the tooth with a statistical, parameterized shape model of each tooth type (upper or lower incisors, canines, pre-molars, molars) as the patient's tooth to be treated. This allows for planning and/or simulation of one or more root canal treatments on the computer model of the patient's tooth and that the dentist or dental specialist is given qualitative and/or quantitative information by the system in order to aid in adequately analyzing the risks related to performing the root canal treatment with the proposed or user-selected endodontic tools.

Method and system for 3D root canal treatment planning

A computer based method is used to design a healing cap of an implant. The method is based on a 3D computer plan of the implant that includes digital representations of positions of implants in the mouth of the patient. The method comprises loading 3D implant plan into a computer and combining the 3D implant plan with information about a prosthetic setup. The method determines a marginal edge of a healing cap of an implant based on a 3D representation of the existing patient anatomy, the 3D implant plan and the prosthetic set-up. The healing cap is then manufactured to the custom design.

This can be realized by a computer based method for modelling a body by scanning a determined space divided into elementary spaces, each elementary space being assigned a signed distance parameter indicative of the distance of said elementary space to said body and a weight parameter indicative of the importance of the distance parameter; said scanning of said body providing scanned points and each scanned point thus obtained possibly modifying said signed distance and weight parameters of each elementary space of said determined space; wherein, each one of selected elementary spaces is modified by subdividing said selected elementary space into higher level elementary spaces defined by the same parameters; wherein, in order to decrease details of the model of said body, said elementary spaces are modified by replacing selected elementary spaces with lower level elementary spaces.

Systems and methods, devices and software are described for use in image comparison such as required for medical planning such as in dental implantology or other applications that require registration of digital images. A method and system is described for automatically finding correspondences between two or more digital representations such as images of one or more 3D objects with an identical, partially identical or similar geometry. The method and system, devices and software have the advantage that although the different digital representations of the object may be influenced by either noise, or scatter, or occlusion, or clutter, or any combination of these, correspondence can be found.

A method for automatic, or semi-automatic, planning of dental treatment for a patient comprises: (a) obtaining data about an area which is to be treated and data about a face of a patient; (b) performing a computer-assisted analysis of the data to determine properties of at least the face of the patient; (c) creating a modified tooth set-up using a set of stored rules which make use of the determined facial properties. A three-dimensional representation simulates the appearance of the modified tooth set-up and the patient's face surrounding the treatment area. The method also determines properties of existing teeth and creates a modified tooth set-up which is also based on the existing teeth of the patient. The method can be implemented as software running on a workstation.

Tooth movement system and method

An anchorage unit fits to a dental implant. A dental attachment for mounting to the anchorage unit has a first attachment part and a second attachment part. The attachment parts define an aperture for accommodating a portion of the anchorage unit with a boundary wall of the aperture on each of the attachment parts serving, in use, as a jaw for clamping against the portion of the anchorage unit. The aperture is of greater size than the portion of the anchorage unit to allow adjustment of the position of the attachment with respect to the anchorage unit. In another embodiment, a two-part anchoring assembly defines a pair of jaws for, in use, receiving and clamping against a portion of a dental attachment. The apparatus is particularly relevant when an attachment must be placed on more than one implant simultaneously.

A protective helmet is described comprising: an outer layer (); an inner layer () for contact with a head of a wearer; and an intermediate layer () comprising an anisotropic cellular material comprising cells having cell walls, the anisotropic cellular material having a relatively low resistance against deformation resulting from tangential forces on the helmet. The anisotropic material can be a foam or honeycomb material. The foam is preferably a closed cell foam. The helmet allows tangential impacts to the helmet which cause less rotational acceleration or deceleration of the head of the wearer compared to helmets using isotropic foams while still absorbing a significant amount of rotational energy.
