A drawer slide device for suspending and supporting a drawer which permits the drawer to be opened and closed and limits the travel of the drawer includes a guide bar ridgedly attached to a drawer holder and having a slot therein, and a slide bar suspended from the guide bar slot by screws such that the screw heads can not pass through but may slide within the slot while holding the slide bar. The slide bar has a slot from which a drawer is suspended by screws that are similarly free to slide within the slide bar slot while holding the drawer. Friction reducing washers are interposed between bearing surfaces to permit ease of operation. The travel of the drawer is limited to a portion of the total of the slot lengths.

Method and apparatus for packaging electronic equipment comprise a housing and a 'midplane' that is removably secured to suitable flanges centrally located within the housing. Individual sub-modules (CPU, disk drive, I/O unit, power supply, etc.) have suitable electrical connectors which mate with corresponding connectors on the midplane. The sub-modules are inserted into the midplane from different sides of the housing. The exposed, outer surfaces of the sub-modules may either be finished in final form, or suitable bezels may be placed over the sides of the housing so that the sub-modules can be appropriately accessed for necessary replacement or repair.

A disk drive shock mount is provided which attenuates shocks and vibrations to a disk drive (1, FIG. 1). The mount comprises a cradle 20 which is affixed to the disk drive housing, and a mounting plate 10 which may be used to suitably secure the disk drive assembly 1 to the next higher level of assembly. Flexible, compressible vibration isolators 50 of rubber or plastic are used to couple the cradle to the mounting plate. Rigid pins 70 on the cradle mate with grommet-enclosed apertures 60, 61 in the mounting plate to limit the degrees of motion permitted between the cradle and the mounting plate.
