A method is disclosed for increasing the rate of vulcanization of a rubber composition comprising adding to a sulfur vulcanizable rubber a methyl trialkyl ammonium salt of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 are independently alkyl radicals having 8 to 10 carbon atoms and M is selected from the group consisting of Cl, Br, CH.sub.3 SO.sub.4 and HSO.sub.4. Addition of a methyl trialkyl ammonium salt of the above formula significantly increases the rate of vulcanization of the rubber.

A process for forming a polymer resistant to degradation comprising chemically bonding unsaturated antioxidants into polymeric materials by adding the antioxidant to the polymeric material, introducing a free radical initiator and causing the initiator to generate free radicals and bond the antioxidant to the polymeric material.

Antioxidants such as the reaction product of p-aminodiphenylamine and glycidyl methacrylate [3-N-(4'-anilinophenyl)amino-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate], and the reaction product of n-hexyl-N'-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine and glycidyl methacrylate [3-[N-(4'-anilinophenyl)-N-(1,3-dimethylbutyl)]amino-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate], age resistant polymers having monomeric age resistors physically combined therewith and oxidation resistant polymeric compositions prepared by free radical polymerization techniques involving the use of said antioxidants as monomers.
