A method of assigning a job in a document processing environment may include receiving, by a first resource, an identifier and a job. The first resource may be in communication with a plurality of second resources in a document processing environment. The identifier may correspond to a profile corresponding to one or more users. The job may have a job type. A customized interface may be displayed on the resource. The customized interface may present one or more options based on the job type and the profile. A selected value may be received for the one or more options. The profile may be updated with the one or more selected values. The job may be performed using the one or more selected values.

A portable imaging device includes a user operable pointing device that operates together with interactive segmentation functions and an OCR application for capturing and converting digitally recorded images to text. The user operable pointing device permits a user of the portable imaging device to identify a region in an image with textual content. The portable imaging device evaluates whether textual and formatting content in the segmented region can be properly analyzed by the OCR application. In addition, the portable imaging device provides a mode for translating text identified in recorded images.

Scavenging apparatus for removing substantially all unwanted particles from the image and non-image areas of an electrostatographic imaging member without appreciable adverse effects on the desired image remaining thereon, includes an alternating pole magnetic roller for rotatably creating a fast changing magnetic field, a stationary ac biased shell for enclosing the magnetic roller and for creating a low, but fast changing electrostatic field, and a low vacuum system. This apparatus combines the effects of such magnetic and electrostatic fields with those of the low vacuum system to gently loosen and effectively remove unwanted particles from the imaging member, without resort to relatively strong electrostatic field and vacuum values that are likely to adversely affect the desired loose toner image still on the imaging member.

Scavenging apparatus

A cleaning web apparatus includes a housing for holding web material that is used in cleaning a surface of a moving image-bearing member. The housing is supported operationally adjacent the image-bearing member such that the outside surface of the housing frictionally contacts the surface being cleaned. The web material inside the housing is incrementally advanced over the outside surface of the housing, which also serves as a fixed axis for keeping the web material against the surface being cleaned.

Simplified cleaning web apparatus

A brush-vacuum cleaning apparatus, for removing toner particles from the image-bearing surface of a copier or printer, includes an airfoil located on the inside wall of a cylindrical brush housing. The airfoil relative to the rotation of the brush is positioned adjacent to, and on the upstream side of, a perpendicular slot that connects the interior of the brush housing to a vacuum source. The airfoil contacts and compresses the rotating fibers of the brush causing the fibers to rub against one another and thereby to loosen the toner particles entrained therein. In addition, the airfoil serves to aerodynamically deflect and accelerate the airstream moving with the fibers, deep into the fibers, thereby flushing the loose toner particles out of the brush and out of the housing.

Cleaning apparatus having airfoils

Apparatus for cleaning particulate matter from a moving web, such apparatus being held in effective cleaning contact therewith. The apparatus includes a member, which is at least partially formed of magnetically attractable material, for engaging the surface of a moving web to be cleaned. Such member is held in cleaning contact with such web by a magnet which is located adjacent to the surface of the web opposite to the surface to be cleaned, and which induces a magnetic field which attracts the member to the web.

Apparatus for cleaning particulate matter from a moving web

Apparatus and method for cleaning a flexible sheet moving along a travel path, such sheet including a leading edge extending transverse to the direction of sheet travel. A rotatable fibrous cleaning brush is located with its fibers intercepting the travel path of the moving sheet. Responsive to the approach of the leading edge of the sheet, a standing wave is generated in the fibers of the rotating brush. The standing wave results in the fibers being temporarily moved away from the travel path to enable the leading edge to pass substantially freely by such fibers. The fibers return substantially immediately into contact with the sheet after passage of the leading edge to clean the sheet including the area of the sheet adjacent to such edge.

Flexible sheet cleaning apparatus and method

In an electrographic copier wherein discrete dielectric sheets are moved seriatim about a travel path having a portion in juxtaposition with a developer station for developing imagewise electrostatic charge patterns on such sheets with developer material, apparatus for selectively sealing developer material within such station and, during such sealing, guiding a moving sheet along such travel path portion out of developing relation with such developer material. The apparatus comprises a member selectively movable to a first position sealing developer material within the developer station and forming a sheet guide coincident with the sheet travel path portion, or a second position remote from such first position. In response to the lead edge of a discrete dielectric sheet moving away from the travel path portion, the member is moved to its second position leaving the sheet in developing relation to developer material in the developer station; and in response to the trail edge of such sheet moving into the travel path portion, the member is moved to its first position to seal developer material within such station and to guide such sheet along such travel path portion out of developing relation to developer material.

Apparatus for selectively sealing a discrete dielectric sheet developer

A cleaning apparatus and method for removing residual toner from a photoconductor in a color copier. The apparatus includes a magnetic brush for removing color toner particles from the photoconductor as the different color toner particles serially appear at the cleaning station. A detoning roller located proximate the magnetic brush has a portion thereof near the magnetic brush electrically biased to strip charged toner particles from the brush. A plurality of skiving blades serially operate on the detoning roller in accordance with the respective color of the toner particles to remove the particles from the roller. The portion of the detoning roller adjacent the skiving blades is electrically biased to repel the particles to facilitate their removal. Each of the skiving blades is associated with a respective collecting means for collecting color toner particles of a respective color. When toner particles of one color are being removed from the roller, the skiving blades associated with the other colors are moved to a position where they assist in closing off their respective collecting means from receiving airborne toner particles of colors not intended to be collected. The toner particles collected by the cleaning apparatus are therefore sufficiently free of cross-contamination to permit recirculation to their respective developer stations.

Cleaning apparatus and method for a polychromatic electrophotographic

Apparatus for sequentially registering a sheet, movable along a travel path, relative to such travel path, clamping such sheet at its registered location and guiding such sheet as it moves from its registered location. Such apparatus comprises an elongated member having a sheet registration portion, a sheet clamping portion, and a sheet guiding portion. The elongated member is sequentially moved relative to the sheet travel path to: a first position where the registration portion intercepts and stops a sheet moving along the travel path at a registration location to effect registration of the sheet, and the sheet clamping portion and sheet guiding portion are inoperative; a second position where the sheet clamping portion secures the registered sheet at such registration location; and a third position where the clamping portion releases the registered sheet, and the sheet guiding portion guides the sheet as it moves away from the registration location.

Sheet registration and clamping apparatus

Apparatus for use in an electrographic copier having a plurality of electrographic process stations for forming visible images on the surfaces of discrete dielectric sheets. Such apparatus establishes a predetermined operative interface between a discrete dielectric sheet and an electrographic process station so that the function of such process station is uniformly applied to the surface of such dielectric sheet. The apparatus includes a member for supporting a dielectric sheet, such member having a sheet supporting surface mounted for movement along a path from a location remote from a process station to a location which is a predetermined distance from such station and then away from such station. As such supporting surface moves along such path, an edge of a discrete dielectric sheet is clamped to the member and successive portions of the surface area of such sheet measured from such clamped edge are tacked to the supporting surface of the member as such portions are moved with the supporting surface to the location a predetermined distance from such process station. The moving member thus supports and transports the tacked sheet whereby the function of such process station is uniformly applied to the surface of such sheet.
