A robotic assistant comprises a plurality of sensors in a compact and unobtrusive form. One or more sensors may be emplaced upon a mast that may be selectively raised and lowered. The mast allows the robotic assistant to acquire images or other sensor data from a greater height, without substantially increasing the bulk of the robotic assistant. For ease of transport from one floor to another or from one building to another, the robotic assistant may deploy a handhold that a human may use to pick up and carry the robotic assistant. Floor characterization sensors may be used to determine characteristics of the floor such as if the floor is wet or dry. The robotic assistant may be used to provide a user with access to network services, to monitor a facility, provide telepresence services, and so forth.

Robotic assistant

An extensible mast device allows a payload to be supported at a controllable distance from a supporting device. A motor driving a flexible strip provides a force through the flexible strip to extend the mast. The extended strip may have a curved cross section that provides some rigidity. A set of telescoping sections may enclose the strip. One or more of the sections may be flexible. In the event of an impact between the extensible mast and an object, such as a user, the flexible section and the strip yield to the impact and collapse. The extensible mast may be easily reset by lifting it back to a vertical position, with the flexible strip reasserting the curved cross section and the flexible sections resuming substantially the same shape as before the impact. A robot may use the extensible mast to elevate cameras or other sensors to a higher vantage point.

A display () primarily intended for use on an external surface of a building comprises a weatherproof housing (); a bistable electro-optic medium () enclosed within and visible through the housing; an electrode () enclosed within the weatherproof housing and arranged to drive the electro-optic medium; a power source () enclosed within the weatherproof housing; data receiving means () enclosed within the weatherproof housing and arranged to receive data wirelessly from a source outside the weatherproof housing; and display drive means () arranged to receive data from the data receiving means and power from the power source, and to control the potential of the electrode.

Displays intended for use in architectural applications

Electro-optic, especially electrophoretic, displays are used in variety of architectural and furniture applications, including a tile () comprising an electro-optic layer () capable of changing the color of the file, front and multiple rear electrodes and a light-transmissive polymeric layer (), the exposed surface of which is textured to provide a plurality of facets inclined to the plane of the tile (), the rear electrodes being aligned with the facets. A variable color writable board is also provided.

Applications of electro-optic displays

A method of fabricating a color filter array including providing substrate, forming a multilevel structure that is attached to the substrate, etching the multilevel structure to expose first wells in the multilevel structure, filling at least the first wells in the multilevel structure with the first color component, curing the first color component, etching the multilevel structure to expose second wells in the multilevel structure, filling at least the second wells in the multilevel structure with a second color component, and curing the second color component.

Method of fabricating a color filter array using a multilevel structure

An example provides a method for forming an apparatus including a substrate imprinted with a pattern for forming isolated device regions. A method may include imprinting an unpatterned area of a substrate with a pattern to form a patterned substrate having a plurality of recessed regions at a first level and a plurality of elevated regions at a second level, and depositing a first layer of conductive material over the patterned substrate with a plurality of breaks to form a plurality of bottom electrodes. The method may include depositing a layer of an active stack, with a second layer of conductive material, over the plurality of bottom electrodes to form a plurality of devices on the plurality of recessed regions isolated from each other by the plurality of elevated regions.

A flexible housing for a flexible electronic device is coupled to a cover lens for enclosing components disposed between the flexible housing and the cover lens. The flexible housing includes a flexible polymer substrate. A first metal layer covering at least a portion of the flexible polymer substrate. A second metal layer is disposed on the first metal layer. A protective coating covers the second metal layer.

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are disclosed for water resistant connectors having conductive elements. In one embodiment, an example water resistant connector may include a first connector with a first conductive layer and a first water resistant layer adjacent to the first conductive layer, and a circuit component with a second conductive layer positioned on a first side of the circuit component, and a second water resistant layer adjacent to the second conductive layer. The first conductive layer and the second conductive layer may be in contact in a connected configuration.

Displays are described. One display having a light guide, and a multilayer structure. The light guide is disposed on a top side of the reflective display. The multilayer structure is disposed on the light guide. The multilayer structure includes: a first optically clear adhesive (OCA) layer disposed on the light guide; a black ink layer disposed on the first OCA layer; an first layer disposed on the black ink layer; a polymer layer disposed on the first layer; and a second OCA layer disposed on the polymer layer.

A method of combinatorial masking employs a combinatorial etch mask that includes a top layer of a stack of material layers and a secondary mask on the top layer to etch other material layers of the stack. The method includes patterning a first layer at a top of the stack of material layers, and providing the secondary mask on top of the patterned first layer. The method further includes etching other material layers of the stack including a second layer below the first layer with the combinatorial mask and then etching the first layer along with the other material layers of the stack excluding the second layer using the secondary mask as an etch mask.

Circuit fabrication uses a multilevel mask to pattern a first conductor layer of a multilayer circuit. The first conductor patterning is to provide electrical isolation between the first conductor layer and a second conductor layer that one of overlies the multilevel mask and underlies the multilevel mask. With the second conductor layer overlying the multilevel mask, the electrical isolation is provided by undercutting the multilevel mask. Alternatively, with the second conductor underlying the multilevel mask, the first conductor includes a bridged gapped conductor and the electrical isolation may be provided by both the bridged gapped conductor and an insulating layer between the second conductor layer and the first conductor layer.

An electronic apparatus is provided that includes a number of first components on a first substrate and a number of second components on a second substrate. A lamination material that includes a conducting material is placed between the first components and the second components. Any one first component can couple to a varied subset of second components.

This invention provides a thin film device with minimized spatial variation of local mean height. More specifically, the thin film device has a substrate and at least one first structure having a first spatially varying weighted local mean height determined by a layer weighting function. The first structure has a first maximum height, a first minimum height and a first variation for a given averaging area. A compensation structure is also provided upon the substrate, the compensation structure having a second spatially varying weighted local mean height determined by the layer weighting function. The compensation structure also has a second maximum height, a second minimum height and a second variation for the given averaging area. The first structure and compensation structure combine to provide a combined structure upon the substrate with minimized spatial variation of a combined weighted local mean.
