Various example embodiments for supporting forward error correction (FEC) in a communication system are presented. Various example embodiments for supporting FEC in a communication system may include selection of a FEC setting (e.g., an amount of puncturing and/or shortening of a FEC code, a FEC code, or the like) for a communication channel from a transmitter to a receiver based on channel characteristic information of the communication channel from the transmitter to the receiver (e.g., transfer function information, channel loss information, noise characteristic information, error information (e.g., bit error rate, error modeling, or the like), or the like). Various example embodiments for supporting FEC in a communication system, based on selection of a FEC setting for a communication channel based on channel characteristic information of the communication channel, may be applied within various types of communication systems, including various types of wired and/or wireless communication systems.

Forward error correction

Example embodiments describe an optical line terminal, OLT, configured to perform determining a fragmentation allocation for respective ONUs; and notifying, the respective ONUs, of the fragmentation allocation. Other example embodiments relate to an optical network unit, ONU, configured to perform receiving, from the OLT, fragmentation allocation for fragmenting one or more packets; processing the packets in accordance with the fragmentation allocation to obtain fragmented and unfragmented packets; and forwarding, to the OLT, the fragmented and unfragmented packets in accordance with the dynamic upstream allocation map.

Optical line terminal and an optical network unit

A distribution network with point-to-multipoint architecture couples a line termination unit to a plurality of network termination units. A network termination unit includes one or more user network interfaces configured to interface with respective user equipment of respective users, a downstream packet buffer for temporary storage of data packets, a downstream packet buffer monitor configured to monitor the status of the downstream packet buffer and to generate back-pressure signals indicative for the status, wherein the status corresponds to a fill level or fill level variation of the downstream packet buffer, and an upstream transmitter configured to upstream transmit the back-pressure signals to the line termination unit to be used there for shaping and/or scheduling future downstream transmission of data packets to the one or more user network interfaces.

In one example embodiment, a system including a plurality of ports, a plurality of vectoring processors, each of the plurality of vectoring processors having a coefficient memory storing vectoring coefficients corresponding to different victim line and disturber line combinations of a plurality of communication paths connected to the plurality of ports, at least one victim line associated with two of the plurality of vectoring processors and a controller, the controller being configured to assign the victim line and disturber line combinations to the memories based on loads associated with the vectoring coefficients.

Methods and systems for load balancing in vectoring

A communication device for W-CDMA signal transmission and reception has a W-CDMA transmitter having at least one of a first RAM and first registers, wherein the transmitter is configured to operate in accordance with first parameters. Further, the communication device has a W-CDMA receiver having at least one of a second RAM and second registers, wherein the receiver is configured to operate in accordance with second parameters, and signal acquisition component. A processor is in data communication with the W-CDMA transmitter, the W-CDMA receiver and the signal acquisition component, and configured to provide for software configuration of the first and second parameters.

Method and system for high-speed software reconfigurable code division multiple access communication

A communication device for W-CDMA signal transmission and reception includes a W-CDMA transmitter having at least one of a RAM and registers, a W-CDMA receiver having at least one of a RAM and registers, and a signal acquisition circuit. The communication device is software reconfigurable and further includes a digital circuit for phase unbalance precompensation in the W-CDMA transmitter. The digital circuit includes an input register holding a compensation angle and a section performing arithmetic calculations to acquire a change of an I, Q angle by the compensation angle. A method of operating a W-CDMA communication device includes the acts of configuring the device for a specific use, and performing at least one of transmitting, receiving and acquiring waveform signals. The configuring is preferably done by a processor.

Method and apparatus for high-speed software reconfigurable code division multiple access communication

A method for constructing orthogonal codes of length N for use in a network utilizing quasi-synchronous code division multiple access combined with time division duplexing. The method determines the balanced vectors of length N, being all possible cross-correlation vectors resulting from zero cross-correlation of codes of length N. An arbitrary code of length N is utilized, and a bitwise XOR-ing is performed with all the balanced vectors to produce a set of codes with which the arbitrary code is orthogonal. A bitwise XOR-ing of the original balanced vectors is performed and the code is added to a set of orthogonal codes if the result of the bitwise XOR-ing of the original balanced vectors is balanced. The method is repeated until the set of orthogonal codes is complete.

Method for code division multiple access communication with increased capacity through self-noise reduction

Method and system for code division multiple access communication with increased capacity through self-noise reduction

A method of generating a waveform with a plurality of orthogonal PN codes for use in a communications network utilizing quasi-synchronous code division multiple access. The orthogonal PN codes modulate multiple data streams together with a non-orthogonal PN code having desirable auto-correlation properties. The result is a complex signal with time-aligned PN codes.
