An assembly includes a cone having a tapered outer surface, a slips assembly positioned at least partially around the tapered outer surface of the cone, and a sealing ring positioned at least partially around the tapered outer surface of the cone. The slips assembly directly engages the sealing ring, such that the slips assembly is configured to transmit a setting force to the sealing ring, which moves the sealing ring on the tapered outer surface of the cone and expands the sealing ring radially outward. The assembly includes an anti-seal ring positioned adjacent to the sealing ring and around the cone. The anti-seal ring is driven along the tapered outer surface of the cone by engagement with the sealing ring.

A downhole tool includes a sleeve having a first end and a second end, a slip assembly coupled to the second end of the sleeve, a first cone positioned at least partially in the sleeve, proximal to the first end thereof, and a second cone positioned at least partially in the slip assembly. The first and second cones are configured to be moved toward one another from a run-in configuration to a set configuration. When actuating from the run-in configuration to the set configuration, the sleeve is forced radially outward by the first cone. When actuating from the run-in configuration to the set configuration, the slip assembly is forced radially outward by the second cone.

A downhole tool includes an expandable sleeve. The expandable sleeve includes a lower portion and an upper portion. The downhole tool also includes a lower cone positioned at least partially within the lower portion of the expandable sleeve. The downhole tool also includes an upper cone positioned at least partially within the upper portion of the expandable sleeve. The lower and upper cones are configured to expand the respective lower and upper portions of the expandable sleeve radially outward when the lower and upper cones are adducted toward one another. The downhole tool also includes an isolation device extending through the bore of the expandable sleeve and positioned radially inward of the lower and upper cones. The isolation device is configured to engage the upper cone so as to block fluid flow therethrough in at least one direction.

Downhole tool and methods

A downhole tool includes a cone having a tapered outer surface, a slip assembly positioned at least partially around the tapered outer surface of the cone, and a sealing ring positioned at least partially around the tapered outer surface of the cone. The slip assembly directly engages the sealing ring, such that the slip assembly is configured to transmit a setting force directly onto the sealing ring, which moves the sealing ring on the tapered outer surface of the cone and expands the sealing ring radially outward.

A downhole tool includes an expandable sleeve having an outer surface. The expandable sleeve is configured to expand radially outwards without fracturing apart. The tool also includes a plurality of button inserts positioned at least partially in the expandable sleeve and extending outward past the outer surface by a first distance, so as to engage a surrounding tubular when the expandable sleeve is expanded. The tool further includes a first band of grit material on the outer surface, adjacent to at least one row of the plurality of button inserts. The first band of grit material extends outward from the outer surface by at least the first distance, to shield the plurality of button inserts during run-in of the downhole tool.

A downhole tool and method for use, in which the tool includes a housing defining a first bore axially therethrough, and a valve shaft disposed in the first bore of the housing. The valve shaft defines a second bore extending axially therein and one or more openings extending radially from the second bore, the valve shaft being rotatable relative to the housing. The tool also includes a valve sleeve disposed in the housing and defining one or more openings extending radially therethrough. The valve shaft is rotatable relative to the valve sleeve, such that the one or more openings of the valve sleeve are periodically aligned and misaligned with the one or more openings of the valve sleeve as the valve shaft rotates.

A downhole tool and a tool assembly, of which the downhole tool includes an expandable sleeve defining a bore extending axially therethrough, a first swage positioned at least partially within the bore and including a valve seat configured to receive an obstructing member, such that the obstructing member and the first swage substantially prevent fluid communication through the bore when the obstructing member is seated in the valve seat, and a second swage positioned at least partially within the bore. The first and second swages are configured to move toward one another in the bore, such that the first and second swages deform end portions of the expandable sleeve radially outwards and into engagement with a surrounding tubular, and the expandable sleeve, in an expanded configuration in which the end portions engage the surrounding tubular, defines an unexpanded portion between the expanded end portions.

A downhole tool includes an upper wedge member and a lower wedge member. The upper and lower wedge members each have a circumferential width that decreases proceeding from an outer axial end thereof to an inner axial end thereof. As the downhole tool actuates from a first state to a second state, the upper and lower wedge members move axially with respect to a central longitudinal axis through the downhole tool, the upper and lower wedge members move radially-outward with respect to the central longitudinal axis, and the upper and lower wedge members remain coupled to one another as the upper and lower wedge members move.

A method of completing a wellbore system that includes a main wellbore and a lateral wellbore intersecting the main wellbore at a junction is disclosed, wherein in one embodiment the method includes placing a first outer assembly below the junction in the main wellbore and placing a second outer assembly below the junction in the lateral wellbore; placing a first inner assembly in the second outer assembly with a top end thereof below the junction, the top end of the first inner assembly including a first wet connect associated with at least one link in the first inner assembly; and connecting a second wet connect of a string with the first wet connect with a top end of the string having a third wet connect corresponding to the at least one link above the junction in the main wellbore.

Downhole tools and methods, of which the downhole tool includes an expandable sleeve defining a bore therethrough, and a first body positioned at least partially within the bore of the expandable sleeve. The first body is slidable relative to the expandable sleeve, and sliding the first body along the bore of the expandable sleeve causes the expandable sleeve to radially expand so as to actuate the downhole tool from a run-in configuration to a set configuration. The downhole tool also includes an isolation device received at least partially in the expandable sleeve in the set configuration. A pressure on the isolation device is at least partially transmitted to the expandable sleeve as a radially-outward force.

A downhole tool, tool assembly, and method, of which the downhole tool includes an expandable sleeve defining a bore extending axially therethrough, and including a shoulder that extends inward from the bore, a first swage positioned at least partially within the bore and including a valve seat configured to receive an obstructing member, such that the obstructing member and the first swage substantially prevent fluid communication through the bore when the obstructing member is seated in the valve seat, a second swage positioned at least partially within the bore. The first and second swages are configured to deform the expandable sleeve radially outwards when the first and second swages are moved toward one another within the expandable sleeve, and the shoulder is configured to prevent at least one of the first and second swages from sliding therepast.

A wet connection system including a first connector configured to connect to a first control line. The first connector including at least one first pathway arranged to fluidly communicate with the first control line, and a biased movable plug movable within the first connector; and, a second connector configured to connect to a second control line. The second connector including a second pathway in fluid communication with the second control line and a biased sleeve movable within the second connector; wherein the first and second connectors are each pressure balanced to prevent internal control line pressure. External borehole pressures from moving the plug and sleeve from their biased positions blocking the respective first and second pathways in the disconnected condition of the wet connection system. Mating of the first connector with the second connector moves the movable plug and the sleeve against their bias to fluidically couple the first and second pathways in a connected condition of the wet connection system. Also included is a method of pressure balancing a hydraulic wet connection system in a downhole environment.

A wet disconnect system with post disconnection pressure integrity includes a bridge tube. One or more seals on the bridge tube that seal the bridge tube to one or more conductors passing through the bridge tube. A defeatable seal/anchor at the bridge tube sealing an outside surface of the bridge tube to an inside surface of a separate structure. The defeatable seal/anchor being defeatable upon application of an axial load above a threshold.

Wet disconnect system with post disconnection pressure integrity

The well condition during gravel packing is monitored and the gravel distribution condition is sent to the surface in real time through the preferred technique of a fiber optic line that wraps around the screens directly or indirectly on a surrounding tube around the screens. The fiber optic line has a breakaway connection that severs when the completion inner string is removed. A production string can then be run in to tag the fiber optic line through a wet connect to continue monitoring well conditions in the production phase. The fiber optic line can also be coiled above the packer so that relative movement of the inner string to the set packer can be detected and communicated to the surface in real time so as to know that the crossover has been moved the proper distance to, for example, get it from the gravel packing position to the reverse out position.
