Artificial turf for use with an artificial turf system, which may also include a base layer and a support layer. The artificial turf comprising a backing supporting pile tufts of between &#xbc;&#x2033; to 4&#x2033; in length, in position on its upper surface. The backing may comprise a porous synthetic foam or backing sheet. A filler of particles shaped to have no sharp edges and of substantially equal size are interspersed over the backing and about the tufts up to at least half thick length. The artificial turf substantially retains its resiliency, porosity and equal density throughout.

Filler for artificial turf system

An aggregate turf filler for use with the turf of athletic fields and landscaped areas which comprise crushed silica sand particles (SiO) which are substantially round in shape and are sized to be between 12 and 40 mesh. An acrylic based sealer covering the outer surface of each of the silica sand particles. Finally, providing that the silica sand particles have a smooth outer surface, possess an angle of repose of less than 30&#xb0;, repel water, resist compacting, present no damaging sharp edges when incorporated with the turf and are environmentally safe.

A method for treatment of heavy metal contaminated surface coatings, heavy metal contaminated industrial byproducts and industrial effluents utilizing calcium phosphate compounds to render the heavy metal compounds immobile and biologically nonhazardous to humans. In a first embodiment surfaces contaminated with heavy metal compounds are decontaminated in situ during their removal. Solid calcium phosphate material is added to the liquid or chemical paint remover before the paint remover is applied to the heavy metal contaminated painted surface. After application of the paint remover, it is removed by suitable means as scraping or water blasting. The paint and paint remover mixture thus removed is rendered non-toxic with the heavy metal compounds in the paint immobile and biologically nonhazardous. In a second embodiment of the invention, the calcium phosphate compounds are used in a floor sweeping compound to treat the heavy metal contaminated dust generated during industrial processes. Another embodiment uses the calcium phosphate compounds to treat the effluents of industrial furnaces and smelters and render the heavy metal compounds therein non-toxic. A fourth embodiment utilizes the calcium phosphate compounds in a finely ground form to be added to paint to produce a paint that can be applied over previously applied heavy metal contaminated paint to render the underlying heavy metal contaminated paint non-toxic. Other embodiments are shown as well.

Method for treatment of heavy metal contamination

An improved method for decontamination of lead contaminated surface coatings utilizing calcium phosphate minerals. The method for decontamination of lead contaminated surface coatings uses solid calcium phosphate material added to the abrasive blasting media prior to the structure being abrasive blasted. After removal of the lead contaminated surface coating by abrasive blasting with the calcium phosphate--abrasive blasting media mixture, the blown down surface coating and calcium phosphate--abrasive blasting media mixture are left in-situ to allow a chemical reaction to occur which renders the lead immobile and biologically nonhazardous. The calcium phosphate can be in one of several forms which are readily available and inexpensive.
