Apparatuses and associated methods for forming olefins from saturated hydrocarbon feedstock are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a carrier gas is introduced at a supersonic velocity to a feedstock injector section. A feedstock gas is introduced to the carrier gas stream using feedstock injectors that are offset in the streamwise direction one from another. The upstream feedstock injectors are positioned to inject feedstock gas to create plumes that improve penetration depth of the feedstock gas and reduce pressure losses at the downstream feedstock injectors. The feedstock gas can be regeneratively preheated by cooling the convergent-divergent nozzle. Water, steam and/or hydrogen gas can be injected into the apparatus for cooling the throat of the convergent-divergent nozzle.

Supersonic shock wave reactors, and associated systems and methods

A reactor comprising a thermal barrier surrounding a combustion zone. The reactor further comprises a cooling jacket inner wall and a binder disposed between the cooling jacket inner wall and the thermal barrier, and a cooling jacket outer wall, wherein the cooling jacket inner wall and the cooling jacket outer wall define a cooling channel. The reactor further comprises an outer reactor wall disposed over the cooling jacket outer wall, wherein the outer reactor wall is impermeable and is configured to contain high pressure gas within the reactor.

Steady state high temperature reactor

A pyrolytic reactor comprising a fuel injection zone, a combustion zone adjacent to the fuel injections zone, an expansion zone adjacent to the combustion zone, a feedstock injection zone comprising a plurality of injection nozzles and disposed adjacent to the expansion zone, a mixing zone configured to mix a carrier stream and feed material and disposed adjacent to the feedstock injection zone, and a reaction zone adjacent to the mixing zone. The plurality of injection nozzles are radially distributed in a first assembly defining a first plane transverse to the feedstock injection zone and in a second assembly transverse to the feedstock injection zone.

Pyrolytic reactor

Recycle of an extract stream containing a contaminant is used to improve recovery of hydrocarbons in a contaminant removal process. At least a portion of an extract stream is recycled to a contaminant extraction zone and contacted with rich ionic liquid. Contaminants in the recycle extract stream are transferred to the rich ionic liquid.

Extract recycle in a hydrocarbon decontamination process

A process for producing dimethylhexanes (DMH) is provided. The DMH can be used to produce p-xylene. The process involves the alkylation of isobutane and 1-butene using an ionic liquid to produce naphtha that is rich in DMH. The DMH is then converted in high selectivity to xylene, including p-xylene, by dehydrocyclization.

A process for oxidizing and crystallizing alkyl aromatics is described. The solvent and operating conditions are controlled to maintain the aromatic carboxylic acid in solution in the reaction zone, and the aromatic carboxylic acid is crystallized in a downstream crystallizer, resulting in reduced impurity levels in the product.

Oxidation and crystallization process for aromatic carboxylic acid production

A process and apparatus is presented for the improved selectivity of oxygenate conversion to olefins. The process includes passing a process stream through a two stage reactor, wherein the process stream is separated from the catalyst in the first stage before passing the process stream to the second stage. The catalyst is continuously passed through the two stages, and cycles through a regeneration unit to control the carbon content on the catalyst.

Methods for the production of ammonium sulfate nitrate include (a) providing at a temperature of less than about 175&#xb0; C. a melt including ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulfate, and water and the water content is greater than about 2 wt % based on the total weight of ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulfate and water in the melt, and (b) solidifying from the melt 1:2 ANS double salt by cooling at least a portion of the melt at a rate of less than about 100&#xb0; C./min.

Methods for preparing compositions comprising ammonium nitrate double salts

Processes for preparing alkylation aromatic compounds are provided herein. In an embodiment, a process for preparing alkylated aromatic compounds includes reacting an aromatic compound and an olefin in a first alkylation reaction in the presence of a first alkylation catalyst to produce a first effluent that includes an alkylated aromatic compound and unreacted aromatic compound. Unreacted aromatic compound from the first effluent and additional olefin are reacted in at least one downstream alkylation reaction in the presence of a second alkylation catalyst to produce a second effluent including the alkylated aromatic compound. A recycle stream including the alkylated aromatic compound is recycled from the second effluent to the at least one downstream alkylation reaction and, optionally, the first alkylation reaction. A ratio of the recycle stream to a total mass flow is greater in the at least one downstream alkylation reaction than in the first alkylation reaction.

Processes for preparing alkylated aromatic compounds

Processes for preparing alkylation aromatic compounds are provided. One process for preparing alkylated aromatic compounds includes reacting an aromatic compound and an olefin in at least one primary alkylation reaction in the presence of a first alkylation catalyst to produce a first effluent. The first effluent is split into a first product-rich stream and a first recycle stream, and the first recycle stream is recycled to the at least one primary alkylation reaction. Unreacted aromatic compound from the first product-rich stream and an additional olefin are reacted in at least one downstream alkylation reaction in the presence of a second alkylation catalyst to produce a second effluent. The second effluent is split into a second product-rich stream and a second recycle stream, and the second recycle stream is recycled to the at least one primary alkylation reaction and, optionally, to the at least one downstream alkylation reaction.

An FCC process producing lower NOx emissions during regeneration by using excess oxygen levels at less than or equal to about 0.5 mol-% and a plenum temperature above about 730&#xb0; C. (about 1350&#xb0; F.). The process may further include limiting the Pt content in the catalyst to less than or equal to about 0.5 ppm. NOemissions, NO to NO, produced through this process may be equal to or less than 25 ppmv. The process may also include adjusting the metal content of the feedstock for such metals as antimony, nickel, or vanadium. Additional variables for reducing NOemissions that may be used in conjunction with this process may include increasing the flue gas residence time, injecting NHinto the flue gas, adding or using NO-reducing catalysts, increasing stripping of the catalyst, and increasing the catalyst zeolite to matrix ratio.

The present invention provides a reactor system having: (1) a plurality of reactors connected in fluid flow communication and having at least one pair of reactors separated by an interstage position; (2) a line for supplying a reactant feed stream separately to an inlet of more than one of the plurality of reactors; and (3) a diverter in fluid communication with the interstage position and capable of directing a first portion of a product stream exiting one reactor in said pair of reactors to a first location and a second portion of the product flow stream to an inlet of another reactor in said pair of reactors.
