The present disclosure relates to a method of making a powder of dense and spherically shaped cemented carbide or cermet granules. The present disclosure also relates to a powder produced by the method and use of said powder in additive manufacturing such as 3D printing by the binder jetting technique. Furthermore, the present disclosure relates to a Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) process for manufacturing a product by using said powder.

Method of making cermet or cemented carbide powder

A cutting tool made of a cemented carbide substrate of WC, a metallic binder phase and gamma phase is provided. The cemented carbide has a well distributed gamma phase and a reduced amount of abnormal WC grains. The cutting tool has a more predicted tool life and an increased resistance against plastic deformation.

A coated cutting tool of a cemented carbide substrate made of WC, a metallic binder phase and a gamma phase has a well distributed gamma phase and a reduced amount of abnormal WC grains. Further, the coated cutting tool is provided with a CVD coating of TiCN and an &#x3b1;-AlOlayer, wherein the &#x3b1;-AlOlayer exhibits a texture coefficient TC(0 0 12)&#x2265;7.2 and wherein in the ratio I(0 0 12)/I(0 1 14)&#x2265;1. The coated cutting tool has an increased resistance against plastic deformation. whilst maintaining toughness.

The present invention relates to a powder mixture for three-dimensional (3D) printing of a cermet or a cemented carbide body. The powder mixture includes 65-85 wt % of porous cemented carbide or cermet particles of a median particle size (D50) of 10-35 &#x3bc;m, and 15-35 wt % of a dense cemented carbide or cermet particles of a median particle size (D50) of 3-10 &#x3bc;m. The present invention also relates to a method of making a cermet or cemented carbide body, the method including the steps of forming the powder mixture, 3D printing a body using the powder mixture and a printing binder and thereby forming a 3D printed cermet or cemented carbide green body and sintering the green body and to form a cermet or cemented carbide body.

Three dimensional printing of cermet or cemented carbide

The present invention relates to a method of making a cemented carbide or a cermet body comprising the steps of first forming a powder blend comprising powders forming hard constituents and metal binder. The powder blend is then subjected to a mixing operation using a non-contact mixer wherein acoustic waves achieving resonance conditions to form a mixed powder blend and then subjecting said mixed powder blend to a pressing and sintering operation. The method makes it possible to maintain the grain size, the grain size distribution and the morphology of the WC grains.

Method of making a cemented carbide or cermet body

A method of manufacturing an as-cast composite roll by metallurgically bonding one or more rings of cemented carbide to a cast iron casing. The composite roll may be used for hot or cold rolling. The cast iron has the following composition in addition to Fe, in weight %, 1.9-2.8% Si, 0.02-0.10% Mg, 0.5-4% Ni, 0.1-1% Mn, balance Fe and a C &equals;2.5-6.

A composite roll including one or more rings of cemented carbide metallurgically bonded to a cast iron casing. The composite roll may be used for hot or cold rolling.
